Check your hitches!

I spotted this on a truck that was towing a large cat.
Just because it is a 2-5/16", doesn't make it strong. 6000 lb. limit on the hitch and ball:eek: |
It is chrome though.:evilb:
|
I had the same problem a year or so ago..ended up getting a 17k hitch from but someone made me aware of the 10k ball on it..that has been changed to a 15k ball.
|
Seen that more times that I can count.
Not only is that drawbar a cheap and lightweight one from Wal*Mart, but that ball looks pretty old and worn. Worn hitch balls actually lose some of their mass, and can allow a coupler to come of the ball as well. They don't last forever. (Make all the innuendos you want now.) I'll put money on the fact that hitch drawbar is made out of thin (hollow) square tubing. Chance are, NONE of us should be towing with such a drawbar. Most of the solid ones are rated for 10,000 lbs. Here is one a ball rated for 30K lbs. http://www.etrailer.com/p-2516-114-HT.htm Lots more sights with heavy duty parts here: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=78812 |

the ball and reciever can be 15k heavy duty, but if the hitch is not rated the same, your towing capacity is then limited to hitch and pin rating.

It took a REAL truck to get that Ford home:evilb: I'm glad he had outriggers on the back, or the front of that wrecker would have been 4 feet off the ground when it was breaking over:eek: The overload springs were completely flat. |
