'99 GMC Sierra pump replacement 5.3??

My fuel pump took a crap on me today, how big of a task is this to replace? Does ~ $300 for the pump sound right? Do I remove truck bed or drop tank? or can I just add an inline? (I doubt it) I can only beat the tank with a crowbar for so long.

Thanks

300 is because the sender is mounted to it also. You drop the tank. An inline will not be able to pull through the old pump.

Tank has to be dropped. It is plastic so it shouldn't be super heavy. The early trucks with that 5.3 had crappy fuel pumps luckily they changed them in later models. I have an 01, 03, 04 and an 05 that still have the original pumps and no buzzing yet.

Spend the money and get a good pump. Dont drop the tank that is too much work. just raise the bed. Much essayer. take all the bed bolts out except for the back two, just loosen back bolts. Use a jack and a piece of wood, jack the front of the bed up and get in through the fenderwell. MUCH MUCH essayer

She has 237,214 miles on this pump so I think I got all the use out of it as I could.

Thats how I did it on my old 1990 just wondered if it was the same on the newer body style.
