There is no substitute....PORSCHE:grinser010:

Neverfastenuf 08-20-2008 04:50 PM

We have driven both. The Porsche is definitely much more "fun" to drive. Leaning towards it. Just curious as to some others opinions.

No comparison, Cayenne all the way

Uncle Dave 08-20-2008 05:37 PM

Not even remotely close - P-car

Both are total "shop" queens after 20K miles though. Get to know the service guy at the porsche dealership and liquor him up good.

Porsche Cayenne Turbo is my vote but you will get to know the service department well

Quicksilver 08-20-2008 08:33 PM

Or just save a bunch of headaches and grab an SRT-8, let me tell you, it is raw and fun. I love my friends especially with his mods and would buy it instead of the Cayenne or Range anyday, may not be as refined, but its balls out fun for truck. He had a few Cayennes and a turbo was the last one he sold, well modded I might at, and loves the SRT-8 Jeep instead.

Have you looked at what Mercedes has to offer ? The AMG s are pretty nice without the service issues .

I work at a Porsche dealer. Plan on a set of tires and brakes at 15K or less. Great vehicle but expensive to maintain. How about a BMW X-5 ?? I think they make a sport 4.8 engine or something like that. Anyways they all come with FREE maintenance for 4 yrs/50K. It even includes brake pads. All you would pay for is gas and tires. It is a hell of a deal. Do the math. And by the way did I mention I also work for a BMW dlr. I don't sell cars but if you need help, drop me a line. Good deals to be had in this market and we are one of the largest dlrs in the Midwest. We also have Mercedes Benz if that interests you. Check out our website. www.motorwerks.com

Same here. My wife wanted an X5, then Porsche, then a RR sport and I just didn't want to deal with another European headache. I have an Esprit V8 and had an older M5 BMW and are great weekend cars, just don't trust them for everyday reliability wise. I got her a new SRT8 and she loves it. Small enough for her to park easily (compared to my old Excursion-or suburban or even expedition or tahoe) and fast enough to spank the pants off a Range or even the Porsche. For $80k, buy the SRT8 and a 2 year old Porsche boxster for weekends and still have cash left over for gas.....Mike

No doubt, the SRT8 is a nice ride. No arguments here. Drove one and then the Porsche. Picked the Porsche. Just our preference.

i have the turbo with 120 000 km on it, no problems, can pull a 28' loaded car carrier at 120 km/h, handles great, don't drive past the gas station.

Michael Garibay 08-21-2008 02:44 PM

Don't get me wrong, I love the Cayanne. Especially the new one. It's just a little pricy for me. Also it seems to me that if Porsche and Range Rover offered a more "on road" only version (like the SRT8 )of there sport utes w.o. low range , air bag leveling and down hill assist-for off road, they could go on a 500-800 lb diet and really show some unstoppable performance. I'm sure 90% of the people who buy these vehicles, especially in the U.S. never see dirt outside of small trails a Honda Civic could traverse.Happy Motoring to all....Mike

Neverfastenuf 08-21-2008 02:55 PM

Yea, Her Porsche will likely not see much "dirt" action. The new version with PDCC is really an incredible ride. If you get a chance, drive one. 500 HP in an SUV is a little silly. Especially one that handles well.

Plenty quick in stock form, but with mods, SRT-8 Jeep is a f'n slingshot off the line, stop light ruler lol, I can't believe how hard it can launch. And handles great as well, glued to the road. Love the raw feel, its like a moder day muscle car.

Very nice, no doubt. We drove one and it is an impressive ride. Just did not give us the "kick" the Porsche did.

None of these get descent mileage for such small SUVs'. BUT I look at it like I got a lightning quick small SUV with the mileage of a full size. My friend had an '06 Expedition and it gets 12mpg around town (same as my SRT8 Jeep) and his girlfriend has a V10 Excursion that gets like 9-10 mpg.

NJSONIC 08-25-2008 05:32 PM

Congrats on the Cayenne. Yes you will go thruogh tires and brakes but the from what I have seen (on the service end) they have been very good. The very early ones in 2008 had a few things but now I have not seen anything major. Yes the 2003-2004's had issues. I can't wait till the Cayenne turbo s arrives :-).

Powerplay25 08-27-2008 09:46 PM

The Cayenne is a very impressive driver and also very capable of towing.

We used a Cayenne S to tow back a 29' Mirage with a pair of big blocks on a triple axle steel trailer. It had to be between 8000-9000 lbs.

When my friend and I got there to pick up the boat, the seller said "your going to tow it with that?"

The Porsche did very well towing the boat on our 100 plus mile trip back.

I was shocked to see a Cayenne pulling a triple axel 24-26' performance boat the other day.

stainless 08-28-2008 08:17 AM

It's rated at 7800 lbs, but when pulling my 328 ob skater that weighed about 6500 lbs on a trailer it felt a little loose to me . The short wheelbase doesnt make it a great tow vehicle when you get up over 6k lbs. Also the lighting system in the 04 doesnt work with led trailer lights. I dont know if they have fixed this on newer models

The BMW is actually Oriental Blue. Yea, the dark colors are a little tough to keep clean, but I do like how they look when clean. My employees keep busy though. LOL.
