raising chevy Z71 w/torsion bars Front end Alignment after?
 

I have a 04 or 05 chevy Z71. I know i can raise the front of the truck using the torsion bars, but if I do that do I have to get an alignment after?

When raise the front end by turning up the torsion bars you affect the camber and toe in. You also change the "spring rate" meaning the truck will ride stiffer. That being said when done in moderation a lot of guys get by without doing an alignment. I put a 2 inch body lift on rather than mess with the suspension.

yup...will need to align. I just cranked my stock bars 1.5 inches. Been two yrs now. The ride really isnt any different unless you are going to really put the suspension through its full travel....then you will notice its not dialled in right. Sure saves the money over one of the level kits. id do again.

tblrklakemo, I just want to raise the front to level it a bit. You would think with a 4x4 they would give it a little more aggressive stance. Have you noticed any wear on the tie rod ends? Thanks for all the replys!

Do an online search and buy one from a reputable retailer. Make sure it includes bumper brackets. The kit is basicly 2 inch nylon spacer and longer body bolts, and an extension for the shift linkage. Expect to pay around $500 for a good one. Nothing too complicated to install just time consuming.

The only "leveling kit" worth anything is Cognito. It is a new upper control arm, and it increases droop travel. You get it, crank your stock keys, and with longer shocks it's the best setup.

I just sold my 05 2500 with the keys cranked all the way no new UCA, and the ride is the same except where you hit a bump so big you bottom out the droop, which wasn't often even on Detroit's bad roads.

Also, turning the keys does NOT change the spring rate, it simply re-indexes the height. If you turned the keys, and the height stayed the same, that would change the pre-load and spring rate.
