RAPID hitch (height adjustable) Max rating??

Hi guys,

I use the Rapid hitch on my 3500 GMC dually. It is rated at 10.000 lbs, and in the "owners manual" that ccame with it, it says: "Must not be used with bigger than 10.000 lbs trailer etc.". I am sure this is for a reason, but when I see different cars/boats towed at the road in US, many use them with bigger boats too.

I have tried many situations with it (got stuck on the ramp, braked max in a steep downhill and the trailer was without the brakes working) and the biggest boat was a 47 Fountain (about 16.000 lbs with the trailer). To this day, I have had NO problems at all.

MY QUESTION is: Have anyone heared about this reciever itch to break? What is the maximum weight you would run on it? I like it alot because I tow a lot of different trailers, and it is very easy to adjust.

Input is welcomed!

A friend tows a Baja 405 with one and he's about 15k on the steel trailer.

If you're using the factory GM hitch, its not rated that high either. Mine hitch on my 2500HD is rated at 7500#.

I would thing that the load rating would fluctuate depending on what elevation the hitch is in due to leverage changing when you slide it up and down. 10,000 lbs would probably be a conservative figure due to liabilities/worse case scenerios.

I just bit the bullet today, and put a 18k Titan on my dually. After 7 years of overloading my stock 7500lb hitch, I figured it was cheap insurance. Although I've never had a problem, and didn't anticipate one, I didn't want to take a chance of anything happening.
