The problem is if they do catch u, they will impound it until u get the permit. Problem with the permit is they will require u to have a lead and follow vehicle. I don't know, it's a tough call. A friend of mine hauled one from FL with a 10'6" beam with no problems. 12' is pushing it. Keep us informed:cool:

If the boat is 11'11" no escort needed. Make sure the vehicle has a high enough gvwr to carry truck and boat together. If you do get pulled over, DOT will check everything. Permits are not that expensive, I would atleast check into it. Length has ben a big issue with private haulers lately. Check all of the states you will be traveling threw since they all vary. Good luck!!!

If you didn't already know, don't go over the dam. You have to go south and around.

Let me know what you find out. I may be having a Harley shipped from Toledo out here to Vegas soon.
|
Harley is no problem, 12' wide is hard to hide and you're going through alot of states. Hire a legit transport company. The cost of the fines and towing & storage fees if your boat is put out of service by the DOT exceeds the cost of having it legally transported.

Harley's can be shipped at most Harley dealers from dealer to dealer at reduced rates. Check with your or their local dealer for schedules and rates. I had mine shipped from Philly, PA to someplace in Wyoming for about $600. when I sold it.
As for the 12' wide boat thats way too far to be playing stupid. The first toll booth that you come to or weigh station your done for. Wide load needs escort over 11'11" but over 8'11" needs permits and like said is your vehicle rated for such a tow? Play it safe, hire the pro for this one. Just my 2cts. |
Thanks for all the feedback guys i do have a permit for it and the boat is actually 11.5 feet wide and not that i need it but i have class A license so im not a total rookie
