Diesel add gasoline

Has anyone ever added a small amount of gas to a tank of diesel as an additive. If so what results?

I wouldn't even think of it. The diesel produced now has less and less sulfur to act as a lubricant and "wetter" for the fuel system, and gasoline would only dilute and thin the mix even further.

We ran it many times in the older days but not as a peformance additive. It was to stop gelling and if a truck was really frozen you could go to about 15% and that would thaw it out pretty good.

As far as performance goes gas has far less BTU's than diesel so will make less Hp on gas than on diesel.

As far as today engines and low sulfur, there is type of parafin in auto/truck diesel and that gives alot of the lubrication properties as well.

As a quick fixer for a gelled up tank when you have no heated garage it still should work fine today in small enough %.

As an additive, your going backwards in performance and mileage.

I would prefer kerosene over gas as a pour depressant.

never heard of anyone doing it...but i add 2 stroke oil to mine. 1oz per gallon or so to my 7.3..helps lube the injectors with the less lubricated ULSD fuel...

If any of you remember or had a GM 5.7 L diesel the very old ones the service manual said for winterized diesel you could add 1 gal of gasoline per 20 gallons of diesel and it would be OK.

I used to do it back in the day with my VW. If I was up skiing and it got real cold it was the only thing that would work if I did not have addative. I remember one day up there skiing it was -20 and we had to head home. The thing would not start and I could nto plug it in. We towed the thing around with my mothers car for about 5 miles just turning over the engine to warm it up. Eventually it started but would only idle. About 1 hour later it was to the point I could just barely drive it. Lucky for us the first hour is all down hill. :D

it works, not recommended. I had to do it in 01 when up in upstate WI for 2 weeks with my Duaramax . Two weeks of almost 0 degree weather, added 2 gallon to about 20-24 gallons of diesel..solved the problem..was glad to be down south the following week. Jeff
