anything higher than an "E" rating?
Ok, heres the story. Im tire shopping in the morning and will want to go in educated..
gooseneck Triple axle Tilt trailer, full aluminum decking, tons of tool boxes, hydraulic arms plus a 44' MTI on it.. 3 Axles single wheel setup.. have had numerous blowouts. All were cool to the touch before blow outs, no brakes dragging, no road damage or goose-eggs on the sidewalls.. all at random times.. Goodyear Tires, Manufactured in '05. 16" rim. "E" Rated. Should we go to a different BRAND of tire or something heavier? |
GY makes a 235/85R16 in a 14ply, made for a Trailer application. The style is a G614, should run around $239 to $249 per tire.

It appears that this is about the highest rating we can get in the LT235/85 16 size. I guess the real question we are asking is there a tire that will fit the current 16" rims and be the same overall diameter that would have a higher rating. This tire appears to be an RV/trailer tire. Is there a higher rated tire that would only be used on trailers? Could the age of the tires be the problem? The DOT date is 3304 on some of them so it looks like they are 2004 tires or older. All help would be appreciated. |

Good luck with the new purchase. If you don't have one, pick up a Laser Temp Gun to check the tire each time you stop. Even a 5 degree temp anomaly will tell you it's time to inspect a little closer.
