Military K5 Blazer Diesel?

Hello all, im looking at trading a bike of mine for an 83' military blazer with the good ol' GM 6.2 diesel. The rig is all original and doesnt appear to be tinkered with. Anybody have one? Anything i should get checked out before the swap?

Thanks

I have driven a couple while in the military. They seemed tough, but kinda gutless compared to the Duramax. We never had problems with the ones we had and they have very few creature comforts. I think you could find a few websites dedicated to them.

oh yeah......not even the same league to a duramax. All ive read says they are basically a 3/4 ton blazer. from the engine to the th400 trans to the axles. should be fun for what I have planned.

The 6.2 needs a gale banks turbo set up and the gear vendor o/d to make it drivable and give it a top speed over 65mph. With these mods it runs good and sips fuel, but now the radiator can't keep up. I had a dually with this motor before.

The 6.2 and the Dmax do not share one single part except maybe the drain plug. The 6.2 is a gutless boat anchor, but generally very reliable. Hard to kill a motor that makes like 160bhp from 6.2 liters.
The add on turbo setups from banks are non wastegated, and only make boost under heavy load, would not spend that coin on a 6.2 if it were me.

Pull the 6.2 and put a 4BT Cummins in it. That little motor will make 400hp easily.

You can't compare them to a newer oil burner but they run like a top. We had a 87 chevy 2500 at work wit lockers front and back and it was the badest truck on the fleet... Its just suited for a low reving low geard set up
