Keep the tire pressure up. If you keep it at 45 or so, the tires roll under on turns and wear the edges. To keep the front tires wearing evenly, they have to be inflated to 60+. I never rotate. Just replace the front at 35,000 or so. The rears last forever.

Well the popping sound ended up being the skid plate binding when you turned the wheels hard at a stand still so that is all better, the allignment is pretty close, but I think you are correct to keep the pressure up in the front and just replace at 35K, the rears are in fine condition so replacing the fronts and then replace the rears when the fronts go out again. Probably the best solution.
