OK.

go to thedieselgarage.com or powerstroke.org... OOOOOODLES of info (I am 2008ttcc on both forums BTW)

TRUTH: The only option you have to gain MPG is to remove the DPF. POINT BLACK PERIOD. Straight pipe.

There are a couple options for tuners. Which you HAVE TO HAVE in order to delete your DPF. You can go with SCT and Innovative or River CIty Diesel tunes. Or you can go with what most people go with and go with Spartan Diesel tunes on there custom DashDaq tuner.

Now for the tunes. I have the 275hp tune, it runs AMAZING!.. They have a 310 tune under developement which will be released soon. Guys are running this tune, shooting nitrous, and running low 12's in a lifted crew cab. The engines are taking 50+lbs of boost and 1700+F EGTS and laughing at it. There are bone stock trucks except for tuning, DPF delete, and Nitrous making close to 700hp and over 1200ft lbs if that speaks for how amazing these engines are... and the tranny, it is still holding up. Most guys do minor mods like upgrading the TC and stuff but I have not heard of any being granaded.

As far as real world MPG gains... I gained 3-4mpg over stock. You will not get 10mpg+ they lied to you who ever told you that.

Like I said earlier go to Thedieselgarage.com or Powerstroke.org and read up!

There seem to be a lot of 6.4 owners who have had "major" issues. When you have a good one, they are great. when not they are REALLY BAD.

The Duramax is the way to go IMHO it is proven and the allison tranny is totally bulletproof.

Thanks everyone for buying American.

All of this is FALSE.

the biggest problem on the 6.4l was the Job 1 trucks having a leaking radiator which is replaced under warranty. I have not heard of any really bad 6.4l... of course there is going to be a couple, its like that with every truck chevys and dodges alike...

Now as far as the allison transmission being bullitproof. FALSE. If you keep your truck stock, they will last forever, but as soon as you add a tuner, they slip, and buckle under the power (read up at thedieselgarage.com). The chevy plain just will not tow like the ford. The chevy weighs over 1000lbs less than the ford.

2010 is the new 6.7L Scorpion which is going to be their own design, instead of Navistar's, although based on Ford's track record with the 6.0 and 6.4, I would certainly wait before deciding to purchase that one.

250 hp and 10 more mpg? Yeah, right.

Regarding the stock Allison transmission, it's no better than the stock Dodge and Ford transmissions. If you put over 100hp more through them they will ALL fail. GM and Allison want you to believe their propaganda of a "bulletproof" transmission. Don't fall for it.

If you're looking at boosting hp and tq in these light duty diesels, do your transmission(and your wallet) a favor and upgrade the torque converter and valve body. A fried tranny on the side of the road with a boat behind it is a bad thing to experience.

.
THAT IS COMPLETELY FALSE!!!

There are 2008+ Ford trucks running the 275 Tune from spartan for well over 50k-75k miles with ZERO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS.

PLEASE STOP FEEDING THIS GUY FALSE INFO. If you DO NOT know what you are talking about DO NOT say anything.

Dodge auto trannys have always sucked, and allison transmission are bullet proof if you keep the engine stock. Ford Torqshift tranny is the only tranny I know of that can handle the extra power in STOCK FORM. Now if you are spraying nitrous and drag racing every weekend then I would say yeah go ahead and upgrade your TC it will help your ETs... But if you just have it for fun on the street and MPG then I wouldnt worry about it!
