I tow with a 2000 Ford 7.3 with the 6 speed ZF transmission. I LOVE it. I will never own an automatic. The mileage is good, and you can always put the truck in the power band.

You would have to be a retard with my truck to F-up at the ramp. All I have to do with my Cafe (14k or so loaded) at the ramp is put it in low gear and let the clutch out. Pull right up. Never put it in 4WD at the ramp but I damn sure have it....

I think the 6 speed spins quite a few less revs on the highway which is nice....

Thanks for all the input guys.... So I guess I won't stray away from trucks with sticks.... Oh, and looking at much older then '05 (tough times, between my boat motor going, and my suburban self destructing, :angry-smiley-038:)

I don't know much about Ford but the dodge trannies, NV4500 5-speed and the NV5600 6-speed have the exact same final gear ratio. 3rd and 4th are just closer together, which is awesome for towing.

That's a beautiful truck!! Good power too but kinda conservative for a 12 valve. What mods? You would get better fuel mileage and easier towing if you put an auxillary transmission in it;
