trailer bow stop help
 

I have a 35 fountain on a manning trailer.which position should the v stop be under the bow eye under the bow eye or as low as i can make it?

The bow eye of the boat should be just under the V. The reasoning is that the cable or strap which is on the winch will pull the boat straight - not up or down which would put un - needed stress on the trailer as well as the boat. The second reason is in case of a panic stop the bow eye will push against the v or roller and be stopped.If the boy eye was on the top the trailer V the boat could push forard and cause damage to the boat and trailer.

Also - When I got my trailer it was below the Eye, and on steep ramps it will get caught on the stop and you will have a nightmare getting the boat off.

If you have a roller the bow eye should go below the roller.

If you have a split front V configuration for your bow stop, it does not matter.

When you have a Fountain, you have to make concessions for the beak. You want your bow stop to be a bit on the low side, so no matter what angle ramp you are using, the bow/beak gets caught and lifted above the winch/stand.

Just FYI for others, most Mannings and Mycos have a split V-bunk for the bow stop, and the winch stand is a whole separate unit. Take a look at the boats in the classifieds for examples.

In an emergency situation, a bow eye sitting below a roller is not going to offer much "stopping power." Stopping power is going to come from having a ratchet strap angled toward the aft of the boat; as well as your transom straps.
