How far back on trailer should boat be placed?

How far back on trailer should boat be placed?

Assuming a triple axle trailer, and a 28 foot single big block engine boat, how far back on the trailer should the boat be placed for towing? It should the hull of the boat hang out further than the rear edge of the bunks? Or should the boat be pulled forward enough so that you can see a little bit of the top of the bunks at the rear of the trailer when the boat is secured to the trailer?

The transom should Not hang over the bunks.

The transom should never hang over the bunks. Over time it’ll actually deform the bottom of the boat along with other issues. After that it doesn’t matter how far forward as long as it feels balanced on the tongue while towing.

its not so much how far back its placed on the trailer but the tongue weight on the tow vehicle. You should be about 10% tongue weight on the hitch. the bunks can be lengthened or cut shorter to properly support the bottom of the boat.
