Galvanized trailer ???

OK fellas, really stupid question and I am pretty sure I know the answer, but here goes........

Can a galvanized trailer be painted?

The reason I ask is because I have a nice steel galvanized Eagle trailer. Nothing crazy, but it's in great shape, has nice white fiberglass fenders and custom wheels.......but, it's galvanized. It just looks a little industrial to me. I see all these beautiful painted trailers out there, and would love if my trailer was white.

So, anyway it can be done?

Thanks. :drink:

Yes it can be done. If you do a search there have been a few threads about it. Maybe in the fiberglass and paint area?

I just painted my galvanized trailer under my Mini Hawk with an industrial semi-gloss paint. I get the paint info later.

I have not dipped it in the water yet, but I've been working on the boat and other projects in the barn, and the trailer has taken a few smacks from tools and etc. So far, I am very impressed with how well it's holding up.

I painted the coupler and a couple other parts on the trailer that I knew would see wear with that Textured Rustoleum. I prepped, and primed, and then painted. It's awful. It chips off if you breath on it wrong.

Extreme galvanized trailers are painted and look great!!!!!

Benjamin Moore Paint
IronClad Latex
Low Lustre
Metal&Wood Enamel

...is the exact paint I used on my trailer. I have NOT gotten it wet yet, so not sure how it's going to hold up. As I mentioned though, it has held up remarkably well in the garage as I have dinged it a few times while working on the boat and things close by.

It a semi-gloss finish with an ever so slight texture. It touches up very well with a foam brush. You can spray, roll, or brush it on.

Thanks for the info, gents. I need to get a good look at it with the boat off it to really get an idea of what will be involved. I'd really like if it was white, but it may be a little more of a project then I would want to take on.

Here here on that. My 25 year old trailer is under my 13' Mini Hawk. I thought it would be a quick job too. But every time I turned around it got more involved. I took everything off except the axle, replaced all the wiring, and lights; and all the hardware.. Not to mention prep and THEN reassembly.

I hope to get pics today.

That came out real nice. I like the plate.

It had been spray canned with silver paint. I sanded it all off with 60, then 150, then 220; with a DA pneumatic rotary sander.

The paint is self etching. I put about 4 coats of it on the whole trailer. It was my first attempt at painting. It has a few blemishes, but I am extremely pleased with it. It's a 25 year old trailer!

Next is painting the boat.

And yes, that is a custom hitch on the JD as well. It belongs to my GF and she treasures that thing. I think it's 30 years old. The transaxle went out, and I bought a parts tractor to repair it. It's perfect for placing the MH in the corner of the barn.
