Ford F250 gurus help?
I have an opportunity to sell my 01 f250 crew cab 4x4 Lariat , with 160k miles . Truck runs flawlessly and is in great shape. Problem is , i have always loved the Harley edition trucks ,and the King ranch series.
I have two scenarios : 1. trade my truck off for a 05 harley in nice shape and 130k , and add 10k with mine to get in it. Have driven the truck and ride quality is better than my current , power seems a little less , but nonetheless , I love the truck. 2. Can sell mine outright , and get a 04 king ranch in real good shape , and 70K miles . Friend owns it ,and never drives it . It is sitting on two flat tires. WIll have to add 3500 to 4500 , on top of sale of mine to pick this one up. Am I dumb and should stop contemplating getting rid of mine and be happy? Or should I pull the trigger and spring for one of the others???? |
Dookie:
I would not "trade up" to a vehicle with 130k miles. You know how yours has been serviced and buying a 5 yr old truck with only 30k less miles than yours seems shortsighted for 10k. If you can swing the deal on the 04 it seems better but if the tries are flat that means the rotors are probably rusted, calipers may be frozen, etc. The 2004 is only 3 years newer than yours. I also worry about the cam and lifters if sitting w/o running. Your truck a diesel or gas? Diesels will hold value longer. Wannabe |
Wannabe is right. Trading one 100,000 mile truck for another is not a good idea, especially if they're gas.

Wannabe ,
Thank you very much for responding . I know The 10K is a high number , Like mentioned I just like the look of the Harley edition . I have contemplated over and over , just doing all of the parts to convert mine . The ride quality is better . But probaly not justifiable , I only put less than 10K miles a year on it anyway. It stays hooked to the boat 95% of the time. Havent heard a whole lot of good about the 04 models , so ..... He has not driven the truck in a couple of months. said i could drive it for a week if i wanted to .To check out. |
I got an 05 Harley and love it. If you own a diesel just make sure you got about $250 to spend on maintenance every 3-4 months. I change every filter and grease all the fittings every 5000 miles just like I do our semis and the thing runs great. Blew a turbo hose but that's the only problem I have had up to 130k

they are all diesels!!!

Scenario 1 - NOT smart, especially in the case of a diesel because a 7.3 with 160k miles is probably more reliable than the 6.0 with 130 and with a diesel the mileage difference is negligible.
Scenario 2 - Might be smart, but I would be worried about the 6.0's either way. Get an Oasis report on the second truck to see what all has been done to it. |

My truck is in great condition , what would reasonable asking price be? 4x4 lariat crew cab diesel. Interior excellent , exterior great . Median pricing to move quick?

With all the gloom and doom stories about the 6.0, and the love stories of the 7.3, I would put yours up for sale for top dollar, and if/when someone comes along and buys it, I would start throwing offers out on all the 05-06 harley editions and king ranches that people will be unloading to buy the latest and greatest model that recently came out. I would think you could pull it off for not much more than a few thousand if you were patient.
