Have you checked in the steering column to look for frayed wire? My uncle had a 2001 that would blow a fuse that basically killed all the gauges, & throttle if shifted in to d2. come to find out, in the column a wire a shorting when the shifter was moved to a certain position. Something similiar could be happening to your turn signal lever.

I had a set of replacement bulbs that would ground out when turned on, or check at the trailer wire plug for exposed wires or inside the plug nut completely screwed in.
