Ford F-350 Door adjustment?
Hey Guys
A good friend of mine has an 01 Ford F-350, extended cab, 4x4. Recently the drivers side door has appeared to start "sagging" The gap at the top of the door [between the front and rear doors] is starting to close up, to the point where there is almost NO gap, and the gap at the bottom appears to be getting larger? This is an older fella, who lives alone and I assume the drivers door gets used MUCH more than the passenger, which appears to still be fine, all the gaps are even. I checked quickly and there didn't appear to be any adjustment to raise/lower the door, or adjust it. Any Thoughts? PS: I grabbed the bottom of the door and tried lifting it, there was NO play "up and down" which tells me the pins/hinges are good, but, I could be wrong? Thanks for ANY info! Michael |
maybe it was hit and twisted the body a bit?
I had a Jeep Cherokee that cracked a hinge on the fire wall side (couldn't see it easily). A floor jack and a tack weld fixed the sagging door! |
the doors can be adjusted with "shims" in the jam. It is easy.

THANKS for the input, OK, here is what I "know" He bought the truck new, so, I know it hasn't been hit, he is about 200'bs, not overly big, but, a fair size man, I figure that maybe because he is older he might be "leaning" on the door to get in and out? How do I go about adding/checking shims to level the door, same for checking the center cab mount, I did check the passenger side door and its fine, gaps are all good, the truck is white in color too, so, its pretty easy to see the difference [or not] in the gaps Appreciate the info! And PLEASE keep it coming Michael |
The same thing happens to our Crown Vics at work. It needs to have the door hinges replaced.

NAPA has a door hinge repair kit. The bronze bushing have worn out. The kit has two bushings and a pin. Similar to these.

I usually start all me advice by saying I'm "not an expert". But this time I actually get to sat I am. :lolhit: I own an auto body/collision shop. When you lift up on the door to check hinge play,only open it a few inches,if you open more than that it won't move up and down ,and appear that the hinges are good. I can almost guarantee the hinges are bad.We do a ton of them. The pics of the repair kit is a GM set up.The Fords are a lot harder to service that way,and much easier to replace the whole hinge.Have someone lift up on the door so you can watch which hinge is bad,upper or lower. The lower has 2 bolts going into the door,2 into the hinge pillar,and one coming from the inside.You will have to remove the kick panel trim to access it.Be sure to tape the edge of the fender and door as to not chip it.It helps to have 2 people,one to hold the door while you change the hinge.No need to remove the door from the truck. The quick fix is to loosen the 2 bolts on the lower hinge going into the door and slid in a shim on each.The hinge will continue to wear,so you will have to replace it eventually.Hope this help.Sorry to be so long winded,but its fun to actually know what the "fudge" I'm talking about for once.

take a piece of 8x8 and a floor jack andput it under the inner lip of the door jack i up,

replace one hinge at a time
