'99 F450 Pro's/Con's?

Hey all,

Saw this on CL this morning...

http://columbus.craigslist.org/ctd/2110719591.html

Seems like a fair price fro a 99 7.3 with 89k. I'm thinking about going and having a look.

What were the major differences between the 350 and 450 of this era? Rear end gear?

I'm looking for a new tow vehicle, 99-03 power stroke, or a cummins. This caught my eye, so I figured I'd ask the experts!

Thoughs and opinions appreciated.

:lolhit: Noticed that part! I figure I can find a 350 DRW bed pretty easy, or throw a flatbed on it...

FYI,,,, chassis trucks are generally longer then a 8ft bed

formula455 12-13-2010 04:38 PM

I think they have a narrower rear end too

Whoever owned it didn't work it very much huh? Call these guys about a bed;

I say buy it. You can always drop a Cummins in it later. :coolcowboy:

It is going to have the stripper interior (vinyl bench seats, rubber mat floor) and maybe even crank windows (no power).

That doesn't bother me too much, I've been looking for a reliable diesel tow rig that is under 10G's, not an easy order to fill! Most of the F-350 7.3's are clapped out high mileage POS's in that price range. I figure with 89k miles this thing should last a long long time. I've read the rear end gear in these is a 4.88 :eek: anyone know if it can be swapped to a higher gear for some better highway duty?

CAT - as for the cummins, I'd love to throw one in my Chevy, but I just don't have the time... too many damn projects!

Find out what it was used for. If it had a dump bed on it and was used for roofing/landscaping that interior is going to be ripe! Ever want to fvck up someone's car, leave a bag full of cut grass/mulch in the interior overnight after a hot day in the sun.......whew it will never be right again!
