Nitto Terra grapplers?

Any one have any experiance with these? good or bad let me know. I have BFG on my jeep now and time to get new ones, liked the looks of the nitto just want feedback on durability, longevity and road noise.

LapseofReason 03-24-2011 07:45 AM

Great tire smooth ride stay round, my brother has them on his F250.They were a little whimpy for my Excursion so I went with the Trail grapplers still a great ride just with a little more noise but not bad.

they will be going on my 03 Rubicon, so not too much weight on them

t500hps 03-24-2011 08:04 AM

Ive got 6 of them on my dually....not very loud but I only have about 1,500 miles on them. A buddy has run them on his dually and F250 for years and loves them.

kilrbusa 03-24-2011 09:17 AM

They make a replacement tire for the 07+ factory22inch escalade wheels and man i had them on for a week and took them off, damn they made it ride like a truck it was all over the road. now these are all season light truck tires w a highway tread. hopefully their off road tires are better. just becareful when buying them

redsled33 03-24-2011 09:35 AM

had them on my f-250 33" with 20's rode great even pulling the boat.Put them on a friends jeep that had the bfg's off of a rubicon and it was a night and day difference you will be alot happier with these on the rubicon

I have about 8,000 miles on mine... Very good, actually better than expected... They're heavy ply load E tires...
I'm sure the Jeep sizes won't be as stout, thus a smoother ride on the light weight truck.

I have always been a BFG AT guy, then tried Michelin LTX AT (garbage, kept them for 2 weeks), then Back to BFG, and now the Nittos...

rumrunner29 03-24-2011 10:10 AM

I have them on my 06' F250, not much road noise and a great tire. Love em'!!!

Thanks, same here, my BFG's are nice, but on a jeep being light it feels like they pull it all over, even aligned and rotated they seem to cup quickly. I think I'm going to try the nittos, 750.00 for all for is worth a try.

DynojetResearch 03-24-2011 11:36 AM

I have the 325/60/20's on my Dodge 2500...great tire. Very little noise for an AT tire. Got 55k out of my first set on a 500+hp/1100ft-lbs truck.

eddie 03-24-2011 11:41 AM

Mine are done at 21k on a 2008 GMC 2500 duramax. I'm running 305/50/20's and now told if I run the 295 or 285 that hold 80psi cold I will get more miles out of them. I'm going to try those next, hope to fit the 295's but they might be too tall as our truck is stock other than the t bars turned up.

+1 to Eddie. A good friend has 33x12.50x20s on his Dodge 2500 and he says he barely gets 20k on them.

Aqua Banshee 03-24-2011 12:21 PM

On my 3rd set on an f250 315/75/16. I get about 30,000 miles. I like them just wish they would last a little longer

1bagger 03-24-2011 02:31 PM

60k on my F250 SD more agressive and slightly louder than the original Goodyear 80k on them . I would do them again unless I was looking for more of a road tire then the Michelin LTX would be my choice . I'm running load range "E" as well .

I'm looking at the Nittos as well as these to put on my truck.

http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...17968&sw=false

Wear is about the only knock I have heard on the Nittos. Then again I never got good wear out of BFG AT KO's either.

offshoredrillin 03-24-2011 04:43 PM

Thanks guys, just ordered them, got the D rated as it a jeep, and i really don't go off road much...to my door from discount tire direct was 700.00 even.

eddie 03-24-2011 05:02 PM

I just priced 285/55/20's E range for $269.00 + tax installed, anyone have a better hook up?

ttuton 03-24-2011 05:39 PM

How about and American made tire?

PMONT 03-24-2011 06:17 PM

Nittos are made in America, atlanta actually although they were a subsidiary of toyo until 2005 when they became their own company, still tied with owner of toyo

99fever27 03-24-2011 07:31 PM

Check out the Cooper Zeon LTZ..great A/T tire great mileage and a great look too...

mcraymond3 03-24-2011 08:35 PM

That is all we use. GREAT tire! My brother in law got over 50,000 miles out of his F150. I just bought some today for a F250.

texaschopper 03-24-2011 09:52 PM

Some of you are really getting some great mileage out of the Nitto's. I have 35" Khumo's on my JK Jeep which is similar to the Nitto's in look in regard to the heavy side lugs. I only get about 20K out of them, before they really start humming.

boating37 03-24-2011 09:55 PM

They are great tires I have them on my 2500hd and love them.

Catmando 03-24-2011 10:11 PM

"...then tried Michelin LTX AT (garbage, kept them for 2 weeks)..." Tim G.

I put Michelin LTX M&S tires on my dually, ran them for 48,000 miles and still had almost 1/2 tread depth when I traded the truck. Totally quiet, never hydroplaned and ran great in the three snows we had. I recommend them highly.

I like them. Have had 3 sets on a 3/4 Ton Suburan and 2 Excursions. Not any louder than BFG's in my opinion. Wear seems to be about the same.

drpete3 03-27-2011 06:53 AM

best price i found was discount tire direct 285-75-16 for the grappler AT...700.00 to my door, free shipping from them.

Quicksilver 03-28-2011 12:21 PM

I'm thinking of putting Terra Grapplers on my suv... everyone seems to be impressed by them for their nice soft ride, while still having great traction off road/wet weather... and they have a *****in design to the tread :D

offshoredrillin 03-30-2011 06:11 AM

Wow, what a diff the D rated over the E is on a jeep, its smooth as silk, I added a steering dampner as well and love that too..I was wierd as I was dropping off a clients Ferrari at the shop and I got out of that into the jeep, felt like i was riding in a mack truck,lol.. thanks for all the input everyone.

Check with Ben/AllFiredUp-

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/m...llfiredup.html

I bought some Toyo Open Country 10 plys from him a few months ago, best tires ever on F350 SRW long bed with 20" stock rims.

http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/open-country-at

Ben's Bourgets Bike Works (he does tires, oil changes, etc as well but not sure what website that is):

Fixxxer22 03-30-2011 10:21 AM

best tires i have ever had! awesome in snow. just put on my summer set the other day. the olde goodyear at/s which suck in snow.

For what it's worth I studied every option possible for my '07 F250PS, ended up going with these. They are the E-rated 10 plys and are quiet and sticky because of soft compound, but I only got about 18,000 miles out of them. I only use the truck for towing, so they get worked, but I won't be buying them again. They are probably fine for lighter trucks and/or if they aren't towing heavy stuff all the time, but I wasn't impressed. Weren't all that great in the snow either, but were good on dry and wet pavement.

Also fixxer check your PMs when you get a chance I had a Ford-related question for you.
