Chevy Silverado HD2HD | Pickup Truck Comparison | Chevrolet.com

not trying to start a debate or war..Just wanted to share some info... I own both, and dont see the differences especially in the payload video's vs my experience on a daily basis. Acceleration videos I will agree, but not to that extent..maybe different gear ratio's, and not making excuses for the Ford. Not stating which one is better due to I feel both are better at one thing vs the other.. Im not brand loyal and call it like it is.. I still prefer the Ford for every day abuse. Good read, keep it civil like gentlemen so this thread doesnt get yanked like on all the diesel forums I just loaded...LOL.. Thanks guys.. Jeff

Another biased one sided test. I bet if Ford payed someone to "test" all their vehicles theirs would be on top.
Too bad they didn`t do a beauty contest cause the Chevy with those retarded oversized fenders and 90`s interior is ugly .

Magic Medicine 04-03-2011 09:36 AM

I work in service at dealerships selling both brands. Ford is light years ahead of gm in quality. There is a reason my truck has a blue oval on it!

Jeff thanks for the article. I trust your opinion on theses trucks as u drive both and put miles on them!

Quicksilver 04-03-2011 10:43 AM

Reminds me of BMW "pocket padded" tests where they can lose in majority or sometimes damn near all categories yet still get 1st place lol.

diesel power magizine ran a test from dillion to denver Co. pulling a 20,000 lbs trailer driven by fords towing engineer guess who won ?

Every magazine or website 3/4 and 1 ton diesel comparison has overwhelmingly chosen Chevy/GMC (for being faster better towers, better ride/handling, far superior brakes and better fuel economy).....but I'm sure those are biased paid deals.:lolhit:

GM has extensively compared the 2 trucks, and would not invite these types of comparisons or publish tests that can easily be verified if they weren't real.

Ford has a reputation for quality diesels? I guess I was getting my news somewhere else about the never ending issues w/ the 6.0. Hopefully this new one fares better.

Both are nice trucks that will get the job done, but Ford has their work cut out for them.

Quicksilver 04-03-2011 11:17 AM

Really all 3 HD trucks are pretty comparable now, even Dodge finally put in an interior that doesn't feel like it will fall/rattle apart lol. I think it all comes down to preference, mine is Ford... they just have this solid feel and ride to them that the others don't have and like the interior best of the 3. Can't go wrong with any of them, didn't Dodge just up their numbers to like 800 for torque?

hp500efi 04-03-2011 07:13 PM

WOW did you see the smoke from the brakes on the Ford after the brake fade test :eek:

Rigged or not, it shows how each truck performs under those circumstances.

Good find and review.

Jupiter Sunsation 04-03-2011 08:33 PM

Dodge does have the best looking dually fenders though! They got smooth last year and the other two need to copy it!

TW720HVY 04-04-2011 09:52 AM

I have to completely agree with the Engine Brake Test... this was a MAJOR disappointment for me with this truck. The so-called Ford exhaust brake is simply a smoke and mirror marketing ploy.

Yes something like 395/800. The new Laramie interiors are light years better than what they replaced, right up there with Ford and GM.

I think with the new dually fenders and front end treatment the Ram is the best looking truck in its class.

I recently bought a 2011 3500 HD crew 4x4 to pull my 36 skater. The first time towing was a pleasure. I know its not fair to compare the 2011 GM to my 99 super duty, but wow what a difference. They have come a long way with the diesels, ride, braking and creature comforts. It pulls my skater effortlessly. We had the wheels off of it to switch tires the other day and it revealed massive wheel hubs and brakes. No wonder it has done so well in the braking tests.
I can tell there are many out there that seem to be loyal to one brand or another. To each his own I guess. You're the one that has to drive whatever, and pay for it. I've had my 99 super duty since December 1998. It's been a great truck. When it came time to update and buy new, everything that I read in magazines and internet including this forum, said buy the new GM. I did. I'm glad. good luck with the Fords and Dodges, they're all good, if its about being loyal to one brand in making your decision you just might be missing out.

So why don't they? I'm completely open to unbiased tests. Dodge and Ford should "pay" someone to do the tests. Wonder if they already have but have been disappointed by the results.... Possible why they keep upping the hp and tq??

With that said, I would be happy with any of the three. My 98 2500 Suburban with 222K on a 7.4 gas motor is getting a nerve racking to drive. But it still surprisingly runs great.

mikes280 04-04-2011 09:50 PM

one of the magazines did a test on both trucks and the gm ate the fords lunch. Ford has been through how many motors sense the 7.3 , if that is light years ahead then they can have it.

SkiDoc 04-05-2011 05:53 AM

I did my own test, drove Chevy and Ford, liked them both. Bought the Ford because of the way it felt in the seat of the pants. Everyone ought to go to the dealer and test drive them both before they think they know what they're talking about. The durability of the 6.7 is a legitimate concern given the Superduty's recent decade.

The new 6.7 Cummins is rated at 350hp, same as last year, but 800 torque at 1600 rpms with no Urea. That will change in 1-2 years. Truck felt strong, but not as strong as the Duramax..which is the lightest of the group. I agree it looks the best, and the interior is very nice, but the Ford interior is nicer, and has better ergernomics. The GM interior is cheap.

I say we do our own test..REAL WORLD TEST...NONE OF THIS MARKETING BS.... Ill pitch in 2 11 trucks equipped the same or close gear ratio's..Ford and GMC and 2 identical 10-11k trailers.. just need the new Dodge with the new torqued up motor. Who has the equipment for testing, and we need a group of guys .. who's in.:drink:

End Of Feb I looked into the Dodge. Liked the looks far more than the rest. Priced much better too. The new HP and tq numbers are a 11.5 model yr change. Dealer couldn't order or talk price at that time. Said it wouldn't be available 'til May. Was looking to make it my daily driver and tow vehicle but with the cost of fuel and MPG really crappy...

I thought Ford was priced too high and can't really stand the looks of the GM trucks.

I decided to replace my daily driver (gas guzzling Chrysler Aspen with Hemi). Got a new Lincoln MKT with the Ecoboost (355/350).

Kept my 2000 Ford F350 Dually to pull the boat since I don't tow all that much.

I always find it entertaining that whomever "sponsors" a test seems to win it. Maybe it's just me ...

The new Dodge's are out..the 3/4 ton was 52k and had a few less options than our 55k GM and Ford which are equipped almost the same.

See ProStocks comment above. I work for a wireless carrier & we have 3rd partys benchmark our network against the others in major markets. We only publish the markets that our network performed best.

offshorexcursion 04-09-2011 12:54 AM

I bet the test did NOT have the new 800 cummins in the dodge. I also noticed how the dodge was left out of half the charts? obviously its because it beat the GM, brakes, I guarantee it, exhaust brake, yes, frame, prob.

Looking forward to the real world test on OSO!

awesomecat26 04-09-2011 10:07 PM

just had to replace a rear main seal in a 6.7 cummins when I went to the dealer to buy one I asked if it was a problem and the parts guy said " bad enough that I keep 3 in stock" the 5.9 had a very good history much like the 7.3 powerstroke apparently the 6.7 not so much

When I drove the truck, it has the best exhaust brake of the 3...it was loud but worked awesome. The GM was second best and close to the Dodge, but much quieter. The Ford is a different set up, not as effective, to be effective you put it manual mode and play with the + and - on the stalk with the tow haul in mode. I still prefer the Dodge's set up.

Fountain4402 04-12-2011 07:18 AM

I have an 08 F250 now and I think that I will go back to GMC next time. The ford is alright but I find it slow and I have had it in for warranty work about three times in the year that Ive had it.

supercat 04-13-2011 06:56 AM

I drove all three, last truck was a Dodge. They are all more than capable of pulling their stated loads. I am more of a flat lander so I honestly don't care much about exhaust brake. If you are buying a diesel to drag race another diesel up a hill with a load like the tests then I guess that is a strange use of these trucks! lol There were two things that made me go with GM. They were the only manufacturer smart enough to put a 9th injector AT the DPF so they don't need to inject diesel on the exhaust stroke for filter regen. This is a problem with washing down the cylinders and diluting the oil. The second in one work.....Allison.
