That is pretty cool. It looks like it would be a good deterrent and hard to break into. I might have to get one for when I leave my boat trailer.

8 feet of hardened 3/8" link chain, one big ass padlock. Chain two wheels to the trailer frame and it ain't goin anywhere unless they bring a cut off wheel and that might attract a little attention.

cool idea if your leaving your trailer for a while. But what it comes down too is this, most theives are looking for a quick get away. So as long as you have some sort of lock keep your boat in a visible area you will be fine. But if somebody wants your boat they will get it nothing will stop them

I was amazed at how quickly padlocks can be sawed through. I had one of those fancy bike locks, and lost the key. 5 minutes with a cheap hack saw.

This one is American made, be interesting to see if they can be broken into. Probably have to wait for boat thieves to get out of jail before that test is available

We broke our key in one of the $19 yellow locks from WalMart at LOTO. I had a 18 volt Dewalt saws all and hot battery. I handed it to my buddy and he had it off before I could get into the truck to back up to the trailer. BTW middle of the day at public ramp on Shootout weekend and nobody gave us a second look.

My lock was one of those Superman bike locks, it looked like Kryptonite, (I think it was one of those)

I had it off so quick, I wondered why I had paid over $100 smackers for it.

I used to love those Mater Lock commercials, where they shot a high powered rifle at the lock, which didn't open on impact. But you could take a $5 mini hack saw and open it quick enough, with little noise.

That contraption looks intimidating and might be ok if you have electric brakes, but if you have surge brakes it only takes removal of 2 (or 4) cotter pins, knock the slide pins out, pull out the coupler, slide in a different one, put the pins back in, connect the trailer to the truck and drive away ... if they came prepared and knew what they were doing, it wouldn't take more than a couple of minutes. The coupler, with that thing still attached, would be in the bed of their truck or just laying in the parking lot where your boat/trailer used to be. I always put a lock through the coupler on my trailer (with surge brakes), but I always look at it and think how simple it would be, if someone really wanted the boat/trailer, to swap the coupler and just drive off with it. :party-smiley-004:
