Title question

I recently bought a car in Ohio and the dealer didn't give me a title. They said it will come in the mail in two weeks and will come in my name. I did a trade and cash. I asked about sales tax on the difference(the cash) and they said I'll pay that here at the NY State DMV when I register it. This is all typical so far. Now, what happens if I trade the car toward another and just sign the Ohio title over without registering the car?

You won't be able to reassign it without putting it in your name in NY first and unfortunately paying the tax. I'm not 100% on this but I am a dealer here in NY (wholesale). You could ask the dealer to change the assignment to a dealer you trust and do something that way. Let me know if I can help.

Title's already in the mail. Think they can change it if I send it back?

Not without getting a new title. When they signed it over to you they had it notarized and your info is on it. Only way to undo it is a replacement/duplicate title.

In NY the cup is more of a problem than most states. I would give them a call. You wrecking to lose your sales tax credit though.

You're right, I'll lose the tax credit from my trade. That was just a little more than the difference. Fkd again:bsflag:
