dumb oil question for tow vehicle

I bought a 06 RAM 2500 hemi. Sole purpose to tow boat .38mi to and from launch and the occasional summer trip. As of now it has 36850mi. I have changed and flushed everything. I will not put miles on it and am wondering when to change oil. Should I change it by mileage or by calendar date???

I fit were mine I would change it at the end of each boating season. If you don't plan on using it in the winter, that should last you through the next summer. It would take forever to reach the mileage if you only do it .38 miles at a time :)

I also suspect you may end up using it more than you might think.

I have an F350 V10 I do the same thing with. I may put 200 miles a year on it. I change it in the fall after the boat is tucked away in storage. I try to take it out at least monthly in the off season. Even if it's a store run, dinner, etc.

The only thing i would worry about is condensation. Check it regularly. Maybe once beginning of the season and end of season. Just to be safe

Thanks. I was curious cause they say XXXmi or by XXXdate. I didn't even think about condensation.

I would do it at the end of the season as well. Where you are at winter is pretty nasty. I'd probably run it down the road every other week to get it up to temperature. This is what I did on my wife convertible for (4) seasons and never had an issuse.

I have the same motor in my 300C. It makes 345hp/390tq. I believe the truck motor was 365/420 that year. Are those figures correct?

They usually say by millage or every 3 months. I change mine every 6 months, even if I haven't driven enough millage. I have read the oil can break down over time. So I would recommend twice per year.
