my brother's had the injectors done right at 199,999 miles. He literally rolled into the dealer a mile away from warranty.

Don't ever get gas from a mom and pop station. make sure they pump some serious fuel. He got fuel with a ton of rust chunks in it. GM still covered it though.

Dodge? Bought an 01 Dodge new right before the GM, great engine (cummins) but the tranny slipped, the seams rusted after one winter (NY) and I think the interior was made by fisher price. The truck was cheap tho, compared to the other big two.

Maybe dodge has come around, but I can tell you in 01 they were miles behind the others in quality.

I never understood why gm put the injectors in the heads like that. Just seems like a bad idea from the beginning. I was lucky and did my research and bought a 05 duramax.

Lucky? Not wanting to give you bad news but ever heard of the head gasket problems? I have an 02 that just I just bought 8 new injectors. My 05 needs headgaskets. Well it needs one but with the track record I'll do both. My 06 so far hasn't started leaking at the trans lines, but I'm sure it's coming.

To the OP, you made out on that deal. I've seen anywhere from $800-$2,000 for labor alone. I bought a ton of new tools for alot less than that and did them myself, $2,008 total for parts. Didn't need all the tools but don't tell my wife that.
