Haul'n with an H1

Any of you guys pulln your boats with an H1?

From what I have heard they are pretty much terrible as tow vehicles... Low on power, super soft suspensions, etc. I think tow capacity is like 7 or 8k.

Shame because it would look cool :coolcowboy:

Gm did make an H1 Alpha, that came with the Allison and Duramax, throw on some HD airbags, and I'm sure it could tow pretty well. Plus it could tow anywhere!

Two problems:

It has a short wheelbase. Wheelbase 130 inches

In 2006, the suggested retail price was $129,399.00 for the open-top; the wagon was $140,796.00, H1 Alpha was priced at $150,975.00.

The H1 is just not a very practical or comfortable vehicle. They were designed for the military and very heavy. Spend your money on a dually and save the rest for engine upgrades on the boat.

You could buy a badass F650 for that money!!

They have a hard enough time stoping on their own without a trailer.....

Personally towed with my friends H1. Towing and stopping a 1986 27ft formula was scary! I think a H3 with the inline 5 has a better chance! J/K!

http://www.offshoreonly.com/gallery/...archid=108385:

okay hauler if only going a few miles to the launch...best part is you can back in until the bumper is underwater and still pull it right out

on the highway is dicey....takes awhile to stop and uses up brake pads left and right....but sure gets the looks....especially from the liberals who give me the one finger salute!

What are you pulling that Formula with? Surely not a Hummer?

something to keep in mind when towing with a h1,the brake pads and rotors are inboard next to the diffs.when braking all the slop from the drop boxes and all the slop in the cv shafts causes the vehicle and the boat to rock back and forth when stopped..it feels kinda funky..anything under 3k is ok but over that it gets real hairy..

Guys, I have a pretty built dually that i tow my boat, and gooseneck with.

I was just asking for some general info not "you should go buy x"

I know in the offroad community guys are pulling 18-20 trailers with a crawler on the back, but i have not read anywhere about performance or issues.

I agree that i think one with a duramax and a correctly setup suspension would probably be a nice hauler, but have not seen one in real life.

I had a 2002 h1 and towed a bit with it. Not a good choice. Worse than the power is that it would overheat when towing over 60mph. The hood design didn't let much air over the radiator. Cool trucks but not for towing.

Any modern "x-over" suv would be better and safer than an H1 towing lol.
