Kodiak Brake Install
 

I asked in my other thread, but it is old and just resurected...

The install book shows that the left calipers should be mounted at 3 o'cklock and the right mounted at 9 o'clock. I have always been under the impression that disk brakes perform better in front of the axle centerline instead of behind the centerline. I just wanted to make sure that I will be mounting them correctly behind the centerline of the axle towards the rear of the trailer according to the manufacturer...please correct me if I am wrong before I get all six brakes mounted. Figured it would get answered quicker here than an email to Kodiak.

I did the same install this summer and I too installed at 3:00 on the left and 9:00 on the right. The brakes perform awesome. I also did quite a bit of research before selecting the Kodiak system and all the videos and installation documents show the caliper installed at these positions.

Also may want to think about upgrading to a brake-rite electric/hydraulic system. So much better then a surge system!

My Kodiaks are mounted to the rear. It stops when I hit the brakes

Dexter is the only way to go.

I have been wanting to do the EOH conversion on our trailer. I am familar with the Brakelite but not the Dexter. Where can I find out more information about this system and why do you like it more than the Brakelite?

And just to keep from hijacking this thread too much, from an engineering perspective, it does not make any difference whether the caliper is mounted in front of, behind, on top, bottom or any other location in relation to the axle, at least in terms of braking performance. It matters greatly in terms of the orientation of the bleed nipple on the caliper and being able to get all the air out.

If the factory recommends 3 and 9 oclock then do it. Theres a reason they do, they are the experts.

Yes there are bleeders on both ends of the caliper. Here is one installed. 5 more to go...
