How well would this tow?
 

2010 Yukon 4x4 w/ 5.3 and a 1999 302 Scarab w/ 250's. I live in a very flat area, no hills, ramp is 5 miles. I realize it is not going to be a powerhouse but will it ruin the tranny? How much would aftermarket air bags or shock cost?

That heavy boat would not be good for the whole truck never mind the tranny. I know you are not going far but if its a 1/2 ton lots of other things like stopping the boat to worry about also

Is this Bill's boat? Even if it's not, see if he'll let you tow it to see how it does.

I towed the 31 Formula with a 3/4 Suburban for a couple years. 6.0 gasser, 3.73 gears. Did OK and probably a little heavier boat. Not sure the difference for the 1/2 ton, shorter wheel base truck.

Firestone makes an airbag kit
for 5 miles, keep it in 3rd or 4th, use tow haul, use 4wd pulling out, and no worry

You should be fine, just keep it in Tow-haul mode or locked out of Overdrive and it will tow that fine. It will not like big hills but if there are brakes on the trailer you will do fine stopping. That boat is only about 5000 dry so it is not quite like towing a 30 foot sport boat with cabin, big blocks, etc.

I had a '97 302 w/225's and a tri-axle trailer, it weighed 9950 full fuel, water, and rigged, on the trailer, somewhere here I have a Mayflower weigh receipt... my Gen Mgr had the same clone boat on a tandem trailer and it weighed 9770

Wow, that's a big difference, wonder if the number I saw was un-rigged? It didn't specify. If that's the case you would be straining that truck pretty good, short trips only at best.

they were about 5,200# unrigged, add 1400# 200 gal fuel,100# 15 gal water, 900# 2 engines, T top, and trinkets, and 1,800# for the trailer, adds up quick

I had a 1500 Suburban and towd a 31 Formula on an aluminum trailer 50 miles each way for a couple of years. No problems at all. You are over the rated capacity, but I wouldn't buy a new vehicle to tow five miles.

If you have trailer brakes(elec), you will probably be ok for the 5 miles
