Had an 06 Chevy Duramax 4x4 bought new was a decent truck except the front end looked like it was made from erecter set pieces ($100 alignments and front tires), My Dodge Cummins is a great truck, that is the one I kept.
Towed a lot of miles with gas trucks, Never again! it is real nice to have 600-800 foot pounds of torque! If Catmando or I said that it would be ignored (since we are known as Dodge lovers! LOL!) My friends 06 Duramax blew his "amazing" allison trans at 106,000 miles only towed with the truck 2% of the time. His front end also fell apart. Stock truck. Another member on OSO had a allison fall apart recently. So why the allison is so great I Don't know. Never had a problem with any automatic or manual trans in any of my hard worked Cummins, but the rumors say they are junk. So my expierence is opposite from the general consensus. Basically, they all have pros and cons. Best advice is to decide based on the deals you run across while shopping. And driving all of them. We all agree that the Cummins is the best engine though! |

My '04 LLY Duramax has been solid... The only "issue" is that it's on it's second water pump in 75,000 miles.... Strange.
The GM front ends are weak. I had the tie rods change to HD offroad units, and larger pittman and idler arms. I run a tuner on the truck all the time. Power is very impressive, but now it eats tires..... I don't run it on the big tune when towing though...the tranny is stock and I don't want trouble.. |

I never put a tuner on either one of my Rams, but word is if you have one don't use it AT ALL when towing. |

The people who say that about the Dodge trucks are most likely driving 02s and older. The 3rd gens are very well put together. I had two and never had an issue with either one. Go on the Cummins forums and you'll find far fewer problems with 3rd gens.

Dodge and Mack had Diesels before WWII the first Two trucks, Cummings set up Dodge for their Diesels in fact, the first couple dozen or so were done by Cummins at a factory they had in Detroit for this and dressing the engines out, for just in time delivery, they made a lot of changes in those for Dodge, as for the truck all body seams and door clearances are perfect and the doors close with one finger on my truck and this thing has been around the block,Hard! Aside from being aerodynamic.

thanks for your input,catmando...i wasn't bashing dodge,of course,as i like all trucks...i think the popularity of a certain brand has a lot to do with how the dealer treats his customers...around here, some dealers are more ''popular'' because they will go out of their way to satisfy a customer...another thing that makes a big difference is how your dealer reacts to different mods on your vehicle, mostly programmers....it's getting harder to tell your ford dealer you have reprogrammed your ecm when you're in for warranty work
