Difference between 2007 and 2011 GMC 3500?

I think GM should invest some money into the rear suspention. There is no reason that they cant make a more sophisticated suspention system because this is a major "issue" for owners of dual rear wheel trucks. Because these trucks have 8 instead of 4 tire walls at the rear, the surface will be greatly sent through the suspention and onto the frame. In my case, I run the truck 80% without any load. In this condition, the suspention is FAR TOO STIFF. But when hauling a heavy trailer, it need to be stiff to get everything to be stable. WHY has GM not made a more modern system? I remembered we discussed this like 5 years ago, and there was a guy here who had put on adjustable Bilstein shocks, removed one leaf and had air bags on it to increase the loading capasity. He also had the Sulastic shackles. He said the truck ran like a Caddilac when empty and was perfect when hauling when he stiffened the shocks and pumped in air in the bags. Why has GM not made this setup standard?? It makes day and night difference for a guy who actually spend many houres in their trucks.
Have anyone this set up? Are there any down sides to it? I consider to do the same on my truck.
Thanks.

I have the Rancho 9000 series remote adjustable shocks, air bags and kept all my springs. With the remote adjust I can vary the ride response based on my own seat of the pants comfort while on the fly. LOVE it LOTS!!! The air bags contribute some bounce but adjusting the air pressure in them and the shocks I can get my ride very smooth loaded or unloaded.
In comparison the loaded ride is better but one would have to ride the truck loaded to be able to tell the difference because it is very smooth empty too.
Mine is the 06 LBZ 4X4 Dmax/Allison crew cab long bed.
