Who has a C6 Vette?

Feedback?

Anyone with higher mileage on one?

Specifically the 6 Speeds.

Would like to look around for one towards the end of the summer/fall (assuming I don't have any large boating bills).

Sounds like the 08's are the ones to have with the LS3 in them, but I'd just like to explore getting any year since I'm just going to use as a daily driver.

Anyone feedback is appreciated.....

I'm surfing ebay and corvette forums and just figured I'd ask here....

2008 c6

Great Car! I have a machine silver 436hp coupe with custom wheels. Its an automatic but is equipped with paddle shifters.
It also has a remote control that regulates the exhaust sound.
I've owned the car since 2010, it has 9,900 mi. and is currently for sale, as well as my '92 35' Fountain. I'm moving both to upgrade to a larger and faster boat!
Trades considered

Had a c5 that was used as a 10 month a yr daily driver & loved it.
Test drove a c6 but in the end it seemed like a bad idea, so back to p/u`s :-(

I am guessing he meant "bad idea" from the standpoint that he would have gotten into trouble in it....

bajaholic 02-04-2012 10:30 PM

They are great cars, No matter which model you decide to buy, you wll not be disapointed. I have had a number of Corvettes over the years (43 to date, my wife says I have issues) and every model has it's pros and cons. That being said, the current C6 is certainly the best overall package to date...

Bad idea, as in im a grimy bastard and felt guilty enough trashing a $35 k car....never mind a $50 k car.
Needed something a bit more practical since my secondary vehicle at the time (06/07) was a 82 f250.
Again someday

IndyRacer 02-04-2012 10:38 PM

I hear that... I drive a junker 2000 Camry more miles a year than my truck or vette combined.

I just feel guilty rackin up miles, guess im saving it for the next owner...lol

I have a 06 Corvette C6 Z51 with only 11,000km on it. Always garage(heated) kept under cover. Use car very little and would sell for the right amount of money, otherwise keep it and use it when I need it. Car has headers, exhaust, cold air intake, lowered. Car sounds great and is fast.

I just read as the final model in the C6 line they are building a short run of Z06 convertibles but it isn't actually called that despite having the Z06 motor, hood, flared fenders etc!

kr1276 02-05-2012 08:15 AM

I have an 07 convertible purchased new. Converted to Grand Sport, added dual mode exhaust. Truly an awesome car. Have only had to change the oil and replace the battery due to my neglect. Love the car and it is my 9th Corvette.

It is not a stretch to be in production, it is basically the Grand Sport. The advantage of the Z06 is no body stress when turning, accelerating etc. You add the power/weight etc into a Conv, it will be fun to drive but it will not handle as well as an actual Z06. Not that 99% of the people will ever be able to drive it to it's potential anyway...

customryder 02-07-2012 04:18 PM

i have had both 2008 convert and Z06 the z06 is WAY more car... its more than just a bigger engine.

70,000k miles some mode. I drive it like I stole it. I bought it for that though

Yeah - but the Z06 won't be in my price range - I want something I can completely treat as a DD. It will NEVER be in the garage (because I don't have any garage space), and I'm not going to treat it like a queen. Just get in and drive, so I couldn't justify the extra 10+k for the Z06.

Charlie - you had any problems of consequence on yours with that mileage?

charliem 02-07-2012 07:26 PM

1 alternator, 4 sets of tires/brakes, computer glitches

Nothing serious. But it costs 2700 for brakes and tires once a year.

'05 Machine Silver coupe with 6M trans with only 18K on it. Bone stock without any mods. Really nice to drive. May look to step up to a ZO6 someday, let me know if you have an interest in it down the road.

Correct. It's a grand sport basically with the LS7 in it. First one sold at Barrett Jackson for 600k!

I had an 08, man do I miss that car. Sold it for a CTS-V and missed the vette still. Sold the V now to pay off boat and save up for a C7.

I highly recommend a C6, and think the LS3 is the way to go. Has a better interior, more power, better shifting and steering. I had about 36k on mine when I sold it, no issues. Not really high miles, but high for a vette.

Have a Black '05 6 speed, full exhaust with 20K miles... Love it. although i dont use it as a daily driver the fuel mileage is in the upper 20's on the hwy.

Pot of Gold 02-15-2012 10:16 AM

Black C6 , 28 mpg ,great power, had 20k on mine when i sold it, no issues. would do it again

32Envision 02-15-2012 10:21 AM

I had a white 05 6 speed Z51 with Bassani exhaust and loved it. Only had about 12k on it when I sold it but loved everything about it except for the constant squeak from the targa top. Was a really solid car.

mittens 02-15-2012 10:33 AM

I have a 06, Z51 stick. 238 duration /.605 lift cam, headers, full exhaust with controler, and intake and tuned. around town it gets 19mpg even playing, and on trips still gets 28mpg. makes 438rwhp on the dyno.

Love the car, I DD it, heated seats, Nav, Hud. everything. lowered at that.... but going to sell once my boat sells as i want a LOT bigger boat. Pm if you intrested as its got to go soon. but you will love any C6.

I cant say enough good thinsg about the drive train. LSX motors are amazng push rod engines. great power and reliablitly, and good on gas, and light wiehgt as well.

before this I had a Trans Am, bult and drove it for 132k before i sold it and it was still holding strong at the track at 150k last i talked to him. (that car pulled the wheels at the track, to give you an idea of teh abuse it saw as a DD)

What about a C5 Z06? They are great deals.

I have 140,000kms on ours. We also have a C6 Z06.

The C5 is just as much fun.

you can find a deal on some C5's z's too. BUT I persoanlly like the C6 better. even if for one thing... the keyless part.

man do you get used to not having to get keys out to unlock it or to start it or when you get out of it... spoils you really

seafordguy 02-15-2012 01:53 PM

AR15 - Yeah I have thought about that but there are a number of things about the C6 I like better. Looks, interior, remote start etc....

Plus I believe an LS3 stock puts out more power than the C5 Z06 (unless I am mistaken and in later C5 years they put out more).

Right. The C5 Z06 was 405 hp in '04 and the LS3 starting with the '08 C6 is 430hp.
I've had my '05 roadster since '08 and no problems or issues at all. Great car!

mittens 02-15-2012 02:17 PM

A C5z, and a ls2 c6 are neck and neck track times, and everything. (highly debated subject actually.)

the ls3 cars do make a little more power. in stock form. bottom ends still are the limmiting factor when building either and they both have the same points that fail so, 15 rwhp in stock form is about the basic differnce. that and parts are cheaper more common i think for the LS1-ls2-ls6 style heads. then the newer heads.

Fenderjack 02-15-2012 03:09 PM

If you are ??? the life span of a LS engine, it is alot. Like 300k + if you maintain. I have had a few LS engines apart with over 145k on them and some still had cross hatching marks in the cylinders, It's like they don't wear.

got a buddy with stock bottom end over 210k, and still racing it... he would build a new motor but he said he has to see how long it will go, its been too good of a motor to him.

and this buy builds everything.

Grand Sport 6 speed coupe has the steel crank and dry sump. Excellent car to mod!

C5 Convertible with just over 100,000 miles. Drives like new!
C6 Z06 - amazing automobile.
Both cars will get close to 30 highway m.p.g. Your chances of being bettered on the streets are about like your worries of being passed on the water in your supercharged Fountain!

i had a 2000 frc then moved to a 2002 z06, did cam and gears in it. great car. i now have a c6 z06 and just did heads, intake, full exhaust, and cam in it. it is an amazing machine and has been trouble free for 58000 miles. i am getting 33 mpg on the highway with it consistantly.

Nice, love my ls2 shaking , ls7 double

frickstyle 02-18-2012 08:49 AM

My old man has a C6 ZO6. It really is a nice behaving car. It can be a handful at times, cornering. He runs it at Mod Ohio a couple times a year. It really is a nice track car that would take little to make it fast around the track. Night and day vs. his '94 ZR1, still miss that old bucket, but you forget about it once you stand on the loud pedal!

We have a C5 convertible with over 100,000 miles. We put new foam put in the driver's seat, and have used up one set of tires (installed new Michelins) and brake pads. We are on our third battery. Car pulls as strong as the day I bought it. Our 08 Z06 is a beast. If you think you are a master of this car you have either been to driver's school or you are kidding yourself. Looking for a deal? I would look for a good GrandSport coupe with the dry sump motor. The LS3 pulls hard and you have big tires and brakes from the Z06. Put in an aftermarket driver's seat, some belts and a harness bar, and you would have a car that could be used as a daily driver or enjoyed on an open track day (this is basically the setup used at Bondurant's). Most folks don't know how easy the Vette is on fuel too, a bonus. We get 28+ on trips.
