I had the same problem and almost did the weld a bead and file down job. Thankfully, I found a better and much easier answer...
Pull the hitch out of the receiver. Run two wraps of electrical tape around the hitch (one wrap on both sides of the pin as far to the ends of the reciever as possible). It will take about 10 minutes to do it even with checking the fitment and it can be undone easily. It works like a charm!
