Default 2004 F250 Diesel....good or bad?

Just looked at a 2004 F-250 Power stroke diesel truck.

Asking price is $13,500 and open to offers.....

204,000 miles, clean in and out. Was curious what the bad points are on this truck? My use it to tow my 38KV Scarab.

What is a fair price for a private sale, I am in the dark when it comes to Diesels but like anything else I can learn.

Thanks in advance!

BAD!! The Ford 6.0 L is nothing but problems. I'm a Ford guy all the way but the Late 2003 to 2007 Ford Diesels are not good. I don't have time to list all the problems these motors have. The 7.3 L in 1999 through early 2003 are LEGINDARY. 400K miles easily with out a problem. Find a truck with the 7.3 L Diesel, buy it and never look back.

How bad? I had a 2003 F-250 GAS truck and had zero issues? The 6.0 Powerstroke is no go eh?

Run real fast, 8-10 of them in the shop every week here, and we service all trucks. Those just happen to fill the schedule.

Anyone that says 6.0s are bad does not know them. I have an 04 and an 05. The problem is they are chain reaction motors. It starts with the coolant. The ford good coolant has silicates in it. The extreme heat brings the silicates out of suspension. The silicates then plug the oil cooler. The restricted oil cooler then does not allow enough coolant to go to the egr cooler. The heat in the egr cooler then boils the coolant I the cooler, rupturing it. The coolant is then allowed to enter the intake and combustion chamber, blowing the head gaskets. If you have a good oil cooler, run cat elc coolant, have a coolant filter you won't have problems. 6.0s also need good batteries. Bad batteries wreck ficms, bad ficms wreck injectors. The 6.0 is the best deal in diesels going because of their reputation. If you do buy it, keep it out of the dealers, they are a big part of the problem also. I put down 420rwhp all day and have 180k on it and it loves it.

You keep believing that, and you can have all of them. In the past month we've done 2 complete motors because of roller lifter failures, 3 sets of head gaskets (on trucks with bullet proof egr coolers) can't remember how many injectors and ficm's. I do agree with the chain reaction but that's way too many issues for me to be willing to deal with. Give me a 7.3 and a spare cps, or a 12v cummins fix the kdp, and the worst that happens is you can't shut it off.

+100 The 6.0 is the worst thing Ford ever did.
