And I'm pretty sure I plug my block heater into a 120V outlet that is on a 20A circuit in my garage. Would the block heater work better on a 30A outlet? I think I could rewire the garage to do that, but would need to get a heavier extension cord. What gage wire is needed for 30 amp 120V service?
The element is just like a resistor in theory. You are running current through it and it gets hot. The resistance of the heater element is less when warm making current flow easier, kinda like it is a thermistor that actually gets hot. When i check continuity to the heater elements they usually have 20 or so ohms. And hot they have around 10 to 12. No need to re-wire the garage i plug mine into a standard outdoor outlet.

I was just stating above that I have verified lesser current draw if you just plug it in when you get home. As compared to plugging it in when it is a stone cold engine.

fixxxer: did not know that. My knowledge of electricity is little more than "don't take a toaster into the tub with you".

I have $ 2100 in repairs in 2 years and maybe have a blown head gasket again. This truck needs pampered like no other. For being " built tough"
Id say its more like a delicate flower.
Look up the class action lawsuit against Ford. Ford sued the maker of the engine but denies any problems. They just keep making money off repairs.

Let me guess. You have a chip on it, and no head studs. If you do the proper work to them, they are fine. Certain programmers are not good for them, but you need to know which ones. Personally, I would not put anything on a 6.0 besides an SCT.

Here is a new one.......2003 Excursion 6.0, 130k one owner (soccer mom SUV, bone stock except bigger tires on stock wheels). It blew the oil pump inside the motor, just lost power and motor wasn't hurt.

The damage.....$3,000....ouch

most likely the high pressure oil (fuel) pump and some other parts that are known to go..thats a expensive part..

I change my oil about 45-50,000 miles and filter changes every 15,000 miles.
You don`t change your oil for 50K miles? really?

O7Dom thats a good and correct guess. Thats my next step if I keep it. Hard to get rid of something after putting so much into it but my hatred for this truck is pushing me to sell it. Im sure ill get nothing from the lawsuit against ford
