Towing limits (yeah, I read the sticky)
 

My boat: 1999 Formula 330 Sun Sport
Length: 33'
Beam: 10' 2"
Weight: 11,800lbs (I believe)

My truck: 2007 Toyota Tacoma TRD offroad double cab 4x4
Engine: 4.0L
Towing capacity: 6500

The question: Okay, stop laughing... Here's the deal, I would like to be able to tow my boat from a local state park with a ramp to my house for doing work on it. The distance is about 4 miles with no steep inclines. The max speed limit through the entire drive would be 35mph. I figure the biggest trouble is going to be actually getting the boat pulled up the ramp.

So the real question is - If I was super careful, would this be feasible? Would adding air bags provide enough? I know it's far from recommended, but my only other option is to replace my truck (which I love)... which brings me to my second question: For towing such short distance, what could I get away with? I have a feeling that answers to this question are going to vary wildly.

your best bet would be to buy a older 3/4 ton suburban or dually for 1500 bux and use it..things always happen 2 blocks from your home..save a life and spend the extra money..

I wouldn't even try it, just find a friend with a bigger truck to tow it.

Not advisable but you could.. you might need 4 low or at least 4 high with your Tacoma to pull out water. I towed my 25 ol @approx 7.5-8k lbs with 4dr wrangler with 4.10s and 35" tires to the gas station and twice to the neighbor ramp a mile away. (only needed 2wd)

Also depending on balance of boat on trailer also.

Does trailer have brakes.?? Use flashers and take it easy..

Assuming your just doing this not too often!!!

I'm not one to be a hardazz about towing limits but with the trailer your at least doubling the rating of the truck. If this is for 1-2 trips a year to work on the boat I'd find someone local with a proper truck and pay them $100 to bring you the boat. Couple hundred bucks a year is better than another truck AND you get to keep the truck you love.

BTW: I hauled a 382 with a dually and still used 4x4 low when coming up the ramp. No sense in using the tranny when the transfer case/gears can help share the load.
