question is what are you towing, length and weight? Under 7-8k your waisting your money on anything bigger than a 1/2 ton just opinion, unless your going state to state or cross country trips. I tow 9500lbs maybe a little more with a 1/2 ton and its fine by me, owned a diesel before and for me and my 24 mile trip to the launch 12 times a year I dont see the difference except in my wallet for cost of ownership. I did tow the boat 600miles once it handled it but if I were into trips like that with that weight I would be in a 3/4 ton truck. Just my opinion with that you feel safe with and what the trucks can handle legally. I have had two F250 powerstrokes nice trucks now I have the Ecoboost, if your like most guys and tow less than an hour to the ramp and your gross weight of the boat is under 10 grand I would think a half ton is fine. I know a lot guys poo poo the 1/2 tons buts on the market the last 3-4 years is a lot different than the 1998 Chevy 1500 these guys had back in the day. But really towing and weight is like oil arguements or who has the biggest tube steak. Pick what legal and then what you can afford and feel safe handling.

but to add to that if you get the 3.73 gearing convential tow capacity is 11,200. And if your towng a boat thats a little heavier I wouldnt get the 3.42s if it were me.
But this is direct from Chevys website
Chevy 1500 4WD crew cab stn box 5.3l
Curb weight- 5292
Payload-1883
MAX GVWR- 7200
3.73 gear standard towing-11,100
3.42- 9500
Front axle rating 4100
Rear axle rating 3950
2013 Chevy 2500 Crew Cab stan box 4wd 6.0
Curb weight- 6153
Payload-3347
MAX GVWR- 9500
3.73 gear standard towing-9700
4.10- 13000
Front axle rating 4400
Rear axle rating 6200
hopefully that helps. I do know you put 4.10s in that 6.0 and the gas station will become your best friend.
