Break controller for EOH trailer breaks. Proportional or Tim Delayed ???
Looking to add a break controller to 2500 Aval. It's my everyday driver and used for boat towing (4-5) times a season. Suggestions on either Proportional or Time Delayed Brake Controller??
Pro/Cons? |
MaxBrake was the best brake controller on the market when I bought. They are no longer made, now replaced with this:
http://www.brakecontroller.com/maxbrake.htm I don't like inertia based. I don't like time based. Here's why: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/t...-pressure.html If push came to shove, I'd take inertia over time based though. |
Love my Maxbrake! that replacement looks great too. The dash mount and controller is a bit bulky though.
I agree with sydwayz no to those other types. You spent the coin for the best system, take advantage of that with the right controller. :) |

I`m just trying to figure out what parameters in the OBDII can be used to figure out what amount of braking a necessary and do it accurately. |
The MaxBrake Tee'd into one of the master cylinder lines. It senses how hard youwant or are trying to stop/decelerate; not how hard you are actually stopping. Long story short, if you are sliding, or jackknifing; your inertia based sensors are not helping to slow your trailer. Only option is to hit the button on the trailer brake controller.
I would imagine the new style ODB-II engaged controller is reading a combo of vehicle speed and brake pressure; but--that's why is proprietary. :D |
The brake pressure sensor would make sense to me.. I`ve never seen brake pressure as a OBDII parameter. I`d like to see some reviews on that model thou

Shopping for a new brake controller. Does anyone have any feed back on the MaxBrake that uses the OBD II port? I was really wanting a controller that uses a pressure transducer tied to the master cylinder, but as you all know they are discontinued.
