what will tow better my 2009 f150 5.4l and 6spd trans , or an early 2000s gm 1500hd with the 6.0 and i believe the 4l80 trans ? i think my f150 has more horsepower , not sure about torque . just want some opinions from some experts and personal experiences . right now i tow my 25 AT tantrum but in the near future could be moving up to a 32 AT . thanks for any input you guys have .....

Twin BBC, 30ish feet, and you will probably own/want a steel trailer (based on my assumption given your location)...

Between the two trucks you listed the 6.0 would be your best bet. The 4l80E trans can hold up to a lot. But I don't recall and 1500 with a 6.0? Only the SS Model which started in 04 which is what I had and the 2500 which was available with the 6.0. Could this be a swap? But if you had another choice I would also opt for the 3/4 ton. Fwiw I sold my SS w/ the 6.0 and bought a 2013 silverado 1500 but with the 6.2 and heavy duty towing package. I don't tow far and heavy enough to need a 3/4 ton even if I had a 31-33'. And from experience from a close friend he goes his 3500# race car with a steel trailer in his 5.4 limited and he wasn't happy. But still got the job done.

I have towed my 32 fountain with a chevy lly duramax 2500 diesel, my f250 7.3 and a chevy 1500 z71 5.7. Towing with the half ton was only around town and horrible. Get a 3/4 ton or more to feel comfortbale.

Question that begs, can either pull it, yes no problem. Can either pull it safely, probably not.

I'd also go 3/4 ton, really a big difference in stability. Power isn't usually an issue, at most makes a difference on how fast you get up hills. The issue is how the suspension, brakes, and tires cope. Even an old cheap 3/4 will do better. I keep an old 1994 F250 diesel around for towing things. It's not super fast, but is very stable, safe, and bulletproof.

until 07 gm offered a 1500hd 6.0 and 4l80e . its got the full size bed 2500wheels and suspension . i have no clue what the small difference is between it and the 2500 hd .

thanks for the input guys . i wasnt sure if because of the advancement in transmission building if the 6spd half ton may be better or not . my wife is still in school so im trying to cut out 1 vehicle payment and decide if we trade my truck for a lower mileage vehicle for her and a older cash truck for me or vice versa . also want to make sure im doing the right thing for towing . i know if i keep my 25 the f150 should be fine .

I just said Phuck it and bought a 1 ton dually powerstroke, that is buy enough to pull anything that I can afford.

Admittedly, I only use it to pull my boat but I do drive it somewhere every weekend to make sure it doesn't go to hell from sitting.

Whats the weight of a 32AT? Check tow ratings tonge weights. If you tow it far often on highways concider a dually much more stable. Since owning a dually dont realy want a SRW again
