EOH Brake Issue

I brought the boat home today. During the drive, the brakes were grabbing so hard the trailer wheels almost locked up. Output gain was set on 0.5 and the hydraulic pump seemed the be louder than usual. When I got home, I backed up while braking which seemed to help for a while but then it started again.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

Sounds like a controller issue, what kind do you have? Factory or After market?

I would start there, if it is not there then I would go over the wiring connections. I had a cargo trailer once that had a supply line on one of the axles that pinched just enough to chafe on a brand new trailer, every time the brakes were applied that one axle would lock up no matter what the brake setting was. It took the manufacture several hours to find it.

Another thing, try finding another trailer with an EOH system and pull it and see if it behaves the same way so you don't waist time looking at one system that is functioning properly.

Just my thoughts and hope this helps with giving you a starting point.

The EOH system is Brakerite and the controller is the stock one in my Silverado 2500. Everything worked fine. At the end of last year.

Check with the dealership and see if they can test your controller. I'd start with the easiest and start eliminating, if your controller is fine then call Brakerite and see what they think. I'll be willing to bet they'll first say it's your controller, but if you eliminate it and tell them, they'll bounce back with then it must be your wiring. But who knows, maybe they know of the issue you're having.

If it is not a controller issue then I am still thinking it's a wiring issue just because I have dealt with a trailer that had one and it wasn't easy.

Maybe others have some better ideas.

What year is your Silverado. The stock controller in HD 2014 or older GM trucks do not have the correct software to run EOH, They changed it on the HD2015 models that just started to come out. My 2012 2500 wont even work the brakes on my boat trailer with EOH but it will work fine with just standard electric brakes. Talked to the dealer and they told me that I would have to disconnect the stock one and go with a aftermarket controller in order to work the brakes on my trailer.

I have one of those modules I'm interested in selling. I purchased it for my 2007 F350 to use on a Myco I was picking up. Turns out when I arrived the trailer had one on it.

If anyone is interested let me know. Brand new.
