This is one reason why I'm getting rid of my 1/2 truck
 

So I'm getting rid of my useless 1/2 ton truck soon. I purchased a 1990 F250 that I am fixing up now. This is a 2011 Ram 4x4 only tow rated for 7200lbs. With the truck not loaded my 2in drop hitch is perfect. Put the boat engine in the back of the truck and now we have a problem. Had to jack the truck up to get the trailer jack down, then flip the 2in drop hitch up and move the ball to the other side to get the trailer at a safe angle. Good thing the marina that is helping me drop in the engine is only 1 1/2 miles from my house.

Think you are having more a problem with not having the trailer balanced. With the engine in the boat and balanced properly with a 2' rise on the hitch you should be fine. If you need a tad bit more help some air bags in the rear would fix it. I think that is enough truck to pull that boat.

The engine is out of the boat and in the back of the truck. The truck can't handle the weight of the engine in the bed of the truck and the tongue weight of the trailer with no engine in the boat.

With the engine in the boat and no load in the bed of the truck it sits perfect with the 2in drop hitch. I had to flip the drop hitch upside down to get a 2in rise with the engine in the bed of the truck so the trailer didn't sit low.

The payload capacity of this truck sucks. I might even be over my max payload with the engine in the bed and the tongue weight of the trailer with no engine in the boat.

The truck works hard to pull this boat and its not a heavy boat. I want to get a bigger boat eventually so that's another reason for getting a bigger truck.

I understand what you are saying but I think putting an engine in the bed of even a 3/4 ton truck will unbalance a balanced truck.

BTW...Better hurry up...dont want to miss the season!

Factory Ram chart says this truck has 1610lbs payload and 7150lbs towing.

This truck should not be sitting so low with just a 454 in the bed to the point when I have to switch from a 2in drop to a 2in rise.

When I first got this boat I had a beater 1985 F350 I towed it with and pulled the engine out of the boat a few times and that F350 didn't budge. So I think the F250 should do ok.

2011 1/2 ton Ram has rear coil springs so maybe airbags? Best riding truck I have ever owned but weak.

Got my new to me 1990 F250 so I'm good. Wife wants a new FEM-UV so going to trade in her GMC Terrain and this Dodge and get her something new.
