Time for new trailer tires-Need advice
 

I am currently running Goodyear Marathon's 215-75-R14 Load Range C. These have served me well for the 4 years I've owned the boat/trailer. I can buy replacements for around $130/tire,mounted balanced etc.

Looking on eTrailer, I can buy Kenda 205-75-R14 Load Range D tires for $105 each and would then have them mounted and balanced locally for an additional cost.

Two Questions:

Does anyone have experience with these tires? The reviews are pretty good, but I'm looking for real life experience from any members that have used them.
I like the idea of moving up to a higher load range, but what do I lose in going from a 215 size tire to a 205?

I would rather have the Load Range D's, I believe there is an extra ply on each side wall. Going down 1 size means you lose 10mm of width, which isn't very much.

Our 14"s were awful and after only a couple month of ownership of a new Heritage we had a blow out that caused $2000 worth of trailer damage. After that I was done.

If you can I would suggest getting tail equalizers for your leaf springs so you can step up to 15"s and E-rated tires. Once our trailer had 15"s it was an obvious improvement.

Maxxis are the best trailer tires out there. They are HIGHLY regarded in the RV community.

If it is time to go with all new rubber, I suggest seriously considering moving up to 15" wheels and then tires.
(16" would be even better, but from the looks of your avatar picture, I doubt you have that kind of room.)

So going up one inch in diameter would equal one half inch from center axle to top of the tire?

Yes.

I would also go to a E load range. D range is 8-ply E is 10 ply. And go with radial, stay away from bias. Just my experience.
