Pulled my work trailer to a plane crash site and back last week. 4000 lbs and aerodynamics of a BRICK 9 ft tall and flat faced. Got 13 mpg. Now have 4500 miles on the truck and love it. I have XD5 xenons(Ebay) in the lights- 30 bux for hi and lows- as good as the Silverstars and 1/3 the price.

do you feel the motor has now broken in and loose . and youre numbers are as good as the truck will perform ?

Yeah the mpg was lower by 1 mpg due to winds. This truck has a LOT of power. However, you have to mash the pedal to unleash it. I do not feel the truck is underpowered at all. Towing my Chris Cat it pulled it like it wasn't there. My 8.1 gasser in my Avalanche worked hard to even move it-

these trucks are so quiet it they are deceptive.

I have the same truck Denali he with couple k on it , that's why I asked if you felt it was done loosening up , they are super quiet n very nice updated inside . Power I feel is quite bit lower than my f 350 was only gripe

wannabe, does your new truck have the projector headlights for the low beams or is it the regular halogen housing?

B/c if you have the projectors (the ones that look like eye balls) you should stick some HID's in there, 4300K or 5000K would be good (which is the color they burn at) and would be light years ahead of a halogen bulb in a projector housing.

I know you said you put some other bulb in there, but just wanted to throw that out there.

Truck has projector low beams, regular high beams. Instead of putting HID's in (a very involoved process) I simply replaced both sets of bulbs with xenons like Silverstars. The HID's have ballasts etc. I was able to get both sets for less than 30.

The GMC version has a single projector lamp with a shutter for high beams.

Sort of. You can put HID's in a regular halogen housing but the projector style is what they are really intended for.

That pic shows the bulbs on the right and the ballast on the left that you will need to mount/zip tie/2 sided tape to the vehicle near the headlight. Its also a good idea to get a 12v power harness that has its own relay and fuse with wires that get run directly to the battery and it wires into the ballast so the truck still tells the lights to come on. Everything is plug and play aside from maybe needing to change the connections where you wire it to the battery.

HID's put out about twice the lumens as a halogen bulb of the same style/size. They run on less power while on, but need a little bit more to initially fire off.

wannabe, if your lows stay on with the high beams I would seriously do some research on adding HID's to the lows, it will be a night and day difference.
