Trailer tire load range question
 

My trailer tires are dry rotted and need replaced. I have 14" wheels on my trailer. My boat is a 1996 Baja 236 and sits on a tandem axle trailer. I would prefer not to go with trailer tires again because they do not seem to last as long.

My question is will a tire with the load range SL be sufficient? Max load on the tires is around 2000. I think my boat weights around 4000 pounds plus the trailer.

I did look on here first to find my answer and it seems everyone is using E range tires. I'm having and issue because my 14" rims.

Upgrade to 15" wheels of you can. You will have a lot more options.

Second, look into Maxxis brand tires. They are all I would run in those 14 or 15 inch size ranges. They make some great tires.

Ditch the 14's and get into some 15's. Get any LT tire. Try Tire Rack. Best pricing I have found.

And had a friend who works at a Toyota dealership take them in and have his tire guy mount and balance them for $40.

eib8400, you'll most likely need a "tall equalizer" for the springs to help with the 15" wheel/tire clearance. Not expensive but you'll probably need an impact wrench to get the old ones off.

Did this on my old trailer to get ride of the 14"s and get E rated tires, next to the EoH brake system it was the best thing I ever did to it.

I will have to check into the "tall equalizer". Never heard of it.

Keep in mind that not all trailers are the same, what worked for my Heritage Trailer my not exactly work for yours. If you have a Heritage you can call the factory for the part, that's where mine came from. Here is their link...
