As for the original question. I actually have a little hose Tee'd into my boats exhaust/muffler compressor. Lift the engine hatch pull out the hose. It's only 1/ 4" that is attached by Legris fittings so it takes up no room. It's convenient for topping off the tires when no compressor is around.

I can change a tire quicker than a 12V compressor can re-inflate a flat.
Conversely, I have a coiled air hose off the compressor on my truck (for airbags and and train horns). I can reach the whole truck with it, and the spare mounted on the trailer. I also often carry a 5 gallon air can. Either option is quicker than a 12V K-Mart compressor.
