Which Silverado?
I currently own an 08 ltz silverado ext cab 4x4.
For some reason I really like the older SS silverados. I found an 04 Im interested in. What do think about them? Would I be crazy for trading? SS has the 6.0 so it should handel my boat fine. (27 fountain). My big concern is pulling out at the ramp. I always use 4 low and the SS is awd. |
I wouldn't do it. More so because it snows where I live and ramp slim is a ***** at low tide. Looks like you don't have a tide or snow but are the brakes up to par to pull your boat
|
If stay with what you have. If you want the ss as a toy just buy one. Sure you can find a decent deal on one somewhere.

I'm wonder how they are pulling out of the water without 4 low? The thought of burning up the torque converter bothers me. Tow ratings are similar. My tuck stops the boat fine with the trailer brakes so I'm thinking they should be similar. I have enough vehicles so I don't want it as an extra. Anyone out there tow with an SS have some input?? |
I think you could do it, but might need axle airbags. As for pulling out of the ramp, put trans in 1. That would be the equivalent to low gear in the transfer case.
I actually saw a SS454 pickup towing a 26 ft Formula here locally. I personally saw it launch the boat without issues. |
6.0 has more hp than the 5.3. A 27 fountain is a pretty light boat especially if on an aluminum trailer. You won't have a problem with the SS at all. If I remember correctly the SS also has 4 wheel disc brakes vs disc/drum on the 08 1500

We used to have a 27. I wouldn't think you'd need any more truck than you have. We pulled ours with a Toyota Sequoia - it was 4WD, but we never had to use it.

I don't think so. 1st gear in 4wd will be a way higher ratio. |

I don't think so. 1st gear in 4wd will be a way higher ratio. Shifting to first in 2wd in my truck now is not the same as 4 low. That's my big concern when pulling out at the ramp. I always shift into 4 low with my truck. I have air bags on my truck now and would do the same to the SS. I love the way the SS looks. Time for something different. |
You should not have a problem with that boat. I'm pretty sure the SS came with a 3:73 or 4:10 ratios.

you will be fine, SS will sit lower thatw ill be your biggest issue, plenty o power and the AWD will be fine as well

I have a 2010 Sierra Denali with the AWD.... never had an issue. Its nice not having to put it in 4x4 to pull your boat out. I am a big AWD fan, i converted my 95 2500 suburban to awd during my 6.0 twin turbo swap. Nothing beats all around driveability of an AWD. Ever been in the rain in your pickup and make a turn from a stop and it spin? Yeah no more of that... there's plenty of hp and tq in the truck to not worry about the low 4x4 ratio.
If you aren't stuck on a Chevy search for a 08 & ^ Sierra Denali. More HP, 6spd 6L80E trans which is better than the 4L65E in the Silvy SS, and although the Silverado has the SS badge the Denali is quicker in the quarter. https://fbcdn-photos-d-a.akamaihd.ne...d40a6c172fefe7 https://fbcdn-photos-c-a.akamaihd.ne...65b768c1ed26de |
Been there done that and got the T-shirt. Now don't get me wrong I did like the truck but keep in mind it was running a "not meant for towing" setup with Full Race Level 4 FLT trans and 3k stall and 2.3 whipple. My heavy IMP about 6k lbs is probably what your 27 weights??? I sold mine because I had a hard time towing but again wasn't meant for it. Although it ran great and had enough power to do complete AWD circle burnouts. I demoded it and sold it to buy my 2013 with 6.2! Fun truck non the less but there value has come down big time in the past years. And the Denali is faster. haha good luck. I'd stick with the 08 if it was me. Ex. I sold mine with 67K for $14K. And it was an 03 and MINT.

Thanks guys for all the input. I was going to trade but couldn't work out the deal I wanted. I'll keep mine for a while and get something later.
