Default Which Silverado?

I currently own an 08 ltz silverado ext cab 4x4.
For some reason I really like the older SS silverados. I found an 04 Im interested in. What do think about them? Would I be crazy for trading? SS has the 6.0 so it should handel my boat fine. (27 fountain). My big concern is pulling out at the ramp. I always use 4 low and the SS is awd.

I wouldn't do it. More so because it snows where I live and ramp slim is a ***** at low tide. Looks like you don't have a tide or snow but are the brakes up to par to pull your boat

If stay with what you have. If you want the ss as a toy just buy one. Sure you can find a decent deal on one somewhere.

The SS is awd so I shouldn't have an issue with slick ramps or snow.

I'm wonder how they are pulling out of the water without 4 low? The thought of burning up the torque converter bothers me. Tow ratings are similar. My tuck stops the boat fine with the trailer brakes so I'm thinking they should be similar. I have enough vehicles so I don't want it as an extra.

Anyone out there tow with an SS have some input??

I think you could do it, but might need axle airbags. As for pulling out of the ramp, put trans in 1. That would be the equivalent to low gear in the transfer case.

I actually saw a SS454 pickup towing a 26 ft Formula here locally. I personally saw it launch the boat without issues.

6.0 has more hp than the 5.3. A 27 fountain is a pretty light boat especially if on an aluminum trailer. You won't have a problem with the SS at all. If I remember correctly the SS also has 4 wheel disc brakes vs disc/drum on the 08 1500

We used to have a 27. I wouldn't think you'd need any more truck than you have. We pulled ours with a Toyota Sequoia - it was 4WD, but we never had to use it.

I don't think so. 1st gear in 4wd will be a way higher ratio.

I agree.
Shifting to first in 2wd in my truck now is not the same as 4 low.
That's my big concern when pulling out at the ramp. I always shift into 4 low with my truck.

I have air bags on my truck now and would do the same to the SS.

I love the way the SS looks. Time for something different.

You should not have a problem with that boat. I'm pretty sure the SS came with a 3:73 or 4:10 ratios.
