Dump all the emissions bs and they're great motors. 5r110 is the best tranny on the market. Only major issue is the radiators leak where the plastic starts to pull away from the aluminum.

I was told that Fords are the Bayliners of the diesel truck world......
That said I love my 6.4. Delete the emissions stuff, rid yourself of the regen process with a tuner and enjoy the truck. Be religious with fuel filter changes and don't put crap fuel in them. The HPFP is a cab off repair. The auto tranny in the ford is very stout. I run an h&s tuner on the 300 tune all the time. I set all of my defuel levels to a common sense level and I don't think about it. I think a lot of blown head gasket complaints on the 6.4s are because people beat the hell out of the trucks because they are so easy to make power with (and beat on them before they are warmed up) Powerstroke.org is a great reference if you want to nose around there. The radiators were improved as time went by so an 09 or 10 would be a better option. There is some chatter now that the leaking radiators are largely do to flex in the mounts so to me common sense says if you drive the truck like you care about it you shouldn't have much issue. Can't afford a newer 6.7, buy a gasser! |
Have an 08 with 145K miles, never had a problem. Pulled a 42 Nordic many many miles. Bone stock 4X4 crew cab short box. Service is key. What's up Kenny?

I love my 2010 4xCCDually.
The warranty is up 3/31. It's going in this week to have a solid checkup and then I'm doing the deletes in early April. I've owned it for 22 moths and 30k miles. All I had to do was have the shift sensor replaced when it started to not want to shift from P to D. |
I'll might sell my 2003 F-350 V10 4x4 with 101000 miles . I hauled my boat with it, but I don't need it now because I moved my boat to Pickwick and I'm not moving it again.
