Thanks for the numbers guys. I ran some numbers in a spreadsheet and the savings due to mileage won't pay for the diesel in any reasonable amount of time. But I also didn't factor resale (+for diesel) or maintenance (-for diesel).

Is the truck a dedicated tow vehicle or daily driver with weekend duty?

Annual distance? Average tows? Long trips?

I see all these number posted on the web (20mpg highway for example) but all my truck must be bad. They never come close.
My current 3.42 gear 2012 Cummins 12.5 around town 16 highway.
My 7.3 would get 10 if I was lucky around town.
My 8.1 got 6-7mpg towing.
9 around town in the winter.

You`d think just the aerodynamics of a dually never mind resistance of 2 more wheels would cost it in the MPG department. I`m not buying the same for both.

I figured two trips to florida a year, towing one way. Then a trip to LOTO, Chicago and Kentucky lake, per year.

Not a DD. This is much nicer.

I think youd need an emissions free truck with a tune or to have a DEF system on your truck. If the truck can be tuned to release loads of NOx, you'll be getting good mileage because that occurs when it's running lean.

The diesels really shine highway unloaded , especially the pre emission ones.. 6 speed even better. Right now Diesel is cheaper than gas. Thats going to be short lived I`m sure.

Ive always wondered what the DRW takes away in MPG over a single. I think it`s at least 2mpg.
Wish that was the case here......Diesel is still 30cents higher.

Diesel is tied to the price/demand of home heating oil. They are similar products (refined similarly, same equipment & effort).

When home heating oil demand drops (spring time) diesel prices start to drop.

That hasn't happened in all parts of the country.

$209 for gas? .. I love Texas!

In the suburbs we`re at 2.89 gas, $2.59 Diesel

Yesterday $hitcago was $3.34 gas $2.99 Diesel

It went up $.30 last week for no reason, crude still same price.

From what I read on the interwebs another 2-3mpg when removing the emissions.. The exhaust couldn`t be more restricted on mine with emissions. The oil turns to tar color 5 minutes after an oil change thanx to the EGR . It`s a real winner

I`m still under warranty for another 2 years so it has to stay on.

I love the truck thou, so quiet, plenty of power, don`t have a single complaint except that I waited so long to buy one.
