Craig,
Paperwork, spare key, etc was overnighted yesterday. I heard from the shipper last night and your new car will be "headed home" around lunch time. Hope you enjoy it! |
When you get it - drive it and enjoy it. I see many Corvette guys park them to never put any miles on it. It's a fun car that will get great gas mileage. Go have fun.
|
Craig, I can see this going great.......
Scott, Craig's check is drawn on the Bank of Nigeria, he even included a few bucks extra to refund him after the shipping agent collects the vehicle. Craig the good news is that this Vette's motor has been all upgraded by Cobra Power, it even has warranty on the used parts it has for internals! No problem with the title, Larry Goldman is handling all that and Gino's personal shipper is even delivering the car! If the car is delivered with any defects, Chris Sunkin recommends suing for "treble damages", not sure what that means but it sounds like a guaranteed win! :D I will say that this Corvette will have no body rust whatsoever! Good luck with the car, looks like OSO came through on this deal! |

What kind of #'s did you put down on the dyno?

Sure hope Craig's silence on this thread wasn't related to drag racing his Silver C5...... that's a lot of power for a retiree!

Got the car, It appears that the car had been sitting for a while but we couldn't be happier with it! Spent some time cleaning it up under the hood, put new power steering belt and serpentine belts on, had it detailed, got the windows smoked and got the AC charged up. The most unbelievable thing is that we took a two hour trip up and back to Port Charlotte and the car got 27.2 mpg! Not bad for a car that runs 13.3 seconds in the quarter and has a top speed (advertised) of 172! Not sure what gears were in the test car, but 2.73 and/or 3.15 were standard and this one has 3.42 per the RPO codes. Pretty impressive performance! :D http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...99/99prod.html |

My C5 was my favorite of all the vette's I've had. It doesn't take much to really wake up LS engines. BEST of luck with your new ride!

I rented this for the weekend in Phoenix. My Dad and I made an EPIC roadtrip up through the mountains. We beat the tar out of it; 600+ miles on the front tires. Approximately 4X on the rears. :D
It's 15 years newer than mine, but you can feel the lineage in the car. I still love my C5, but this C7 was fantastic. https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...e5&oe=55D90CAA Manual would have been better. |

That's exactly what mine looked like when I picked it up.....all I did was swap wheels !!!! Nice buy !!
I ran out of room at 165 ,,,,, in case you try,,,,, its in 5th gear,,,,, 6th is an overdrive |
Craig, the sky is pretty much the limit as to what can be done with that engine, it basically all boils down to how much power do you want to make and how much do you want to spend? Go over to the corvette forum or even LS1tech and start looking at mods. Doing heads and cam or even just adding a blower will really wake that engine up. I had a C5 Z06 as well that wasn't much faster than your car, but after some basic mods it was WAY faster.
Like I said, the sky and your wallet are the limit, but you have a great base to work with if you want to mod that car. |

I installed my new wheels for the Zip Corvette's car show/customer appreciation day. They appreciated my credit card by the end of the day. I am working on a thrust adjustment, but completed the attitude adjustment for the first day out of the garage this year.

Brian, What size wheels and tires did you go with?
I bought some Z06 style wheels (black w/machined face. Front-17x9.5 Rear-18x10.5) and went with the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport tires (Front 265/40 Rear 295/35)....of course, the tires are on back order. :( I think they will look good, fingers crossed!!! In other news, we took the car on a 640 mile trip this past week and averaged 30.7mpg!!!!!!!!!!! Hard to believe if I didn't see it with my own eyes.... |
265/35/18 front
305/30/19 rear Freaked me out the first time I backed out of the garage and turned the wheel, as they rubbed a bit. But such was only because the suspension had not settled back down after being lifted. As soon as I drove the length of the driveway, no issues. 2nd box of go-faster parts showed up today; waiting on several more. |
Thanks.... I should be OK!
|
I took the ZO6 out couple days ago, forgot how much fun that car was! Definitely a blast and a good deal can be had on the C6s.
Be prepared to receive some traffic violations... Or just build one of these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PznboTtpwA8 |

Got my tires....finally.... and had them mounted on the new wheels. The wider wheels and two size bigger tires fit with no issues. Much better ride than the 16 year old runflats!! I'm planning to put some exhaust on the car for a little better sound and be done with it. Runs more than good enough for what I need.
Although it's been established in another thread that the entire Corvette line is a POS, I still like mine!! LMAO. :party-smiley-048: :party-smiley-048: :party-smiley-048: :party-smiley-048: :party-smiley-048: |
Those remind me of IROC rims from the 80s; love 'em!

I bought this hat today at Zip Corvette Parts.
It came with a free exhaust system. :D https://scontent-lga1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...ae&oe=55C7BFAC |

Congrats on the vette. I had a 2001 millennium yellow 6 speed and loved driving it. If there wasn't snow on the ground, it was my daily driver. I think it had about 80k miles when I sold it and still ran strong. Like you have noticed, it was a fast car that would average around 30 mpg on the highway. Still wish I had it.
|
Congrats on the Vette!
I've had my 2000 C5 for a few years now and still love it! You'll wanna check the battery and see if it is a sealed type. The way the battery tray and associated brackets are arranged, if the batt leaks, the acid gets funneled down on to the main wiring harness. The other weak points on those years are the A/C blend door actuators, headlight gears, seat bladders (if equipped), headlight switch, leaking oil press sender and the column lock fiasco. Once I addressed those issues, the car has been very reliable. The website CorvetteForum has all the info a C5 owner will ever need. |

Put some inserts in the front and rear Corvette indented logos today......sticking with the silver and black theme.
Bryan....what brand of exhaust is that? |
Kooks 1 & 7/8 headers, cats and mid pipes.
SLP tails, mufflers, and tip. I had the tip painted to match the wheels and other black items. I'm also blacking out the entire engine bay; everything. However, the headers are getting a little something special. Now, if my damn FAST intake and TB would show up, we would be in business. |
2006 went from 4 to 6 speed if you are looking for an automatic. I believe the 2006 had a stronger reared for the manual. 2009 has bluetooth for hands free phone.
Z06 2009 up has the bigger dry sump if you are interested in tracking your car. There were some reported oil starvation issues with the 2006-2008 years. The car is a beast. Non Z06 I would look for an LS3 Z51 car. Lots from which to choose. We have both a C5 and a C6. My cousin bought a C7. I won't drive it cause I know I'll want one! |
BE CAREFUL WITH THOSE ELECTRIC DOOR RELEASES:
A U.S. Army veteran and his dog were found dead in his car after an electronic malfunction caused the pair to be trapped inside the man’s Corvette, police say. According to NBC News, 72-year-old James Rogers and his Shih Tzu, Leia, were located by police in Port Arthur, Texas, on Monday. Police theorize Rogers became trapped inside the car after a battery cable came loose, causing the doors to lock and the horn to cease functioning. KBMT-TV reported that “the 2007 Corvette does not have a manual door lock, which means that Rogers and Leia were unable to escape and likely died of heat.” Rogers had no cell phone on him at the time of the incident. Michael Flash, owner of Corvette Specialists, told NBC News that Corvettes have "a manual release lever safety feature that is next to the driver’s seat closest to the door, but most people are unaware of this feature." |
