newer 5.0 mustang
Hey all, anybody have some seat time in one. Looking at a 14 model. Just wanna hear some pros/cons esp on engine. Want to get a 4 seater convertible and the one I'm looking at is decently priced.
|
Honestly, go for the 2015. It has fully independent rear suspension.
Wannabe |
I hear ya but I can get the 14 for 50% less

Drove one back a couple years ago from Terra Haute, IN to Bloomington, IL. 5.0L/6-speed triple black convertible. No complaints on the drivetrain.
|
Engines are fine, the 6 speed manuals were/are junk then...may wanna do some research on that if you're looking to get a stick...automatics are fine.
|
messed with a couple of them. stickys, cold air, exhaust, and tune and they will pack a factory 19 in the air. very impressive cars. the 15s have been breaking halfshafts with sticky tires, the aftermarket has already taken care of it though.
|
Tough car to beat for the $ if you don't mind being associated with a bunch of flat-bill cap wearin' dudes.
|
Well that may be an upgrade from the toothless wonders im hangin with now!!

Hell, around here the guys that own vettes/vipers have to have someone get their walkers out of the passenger seat before they get out of the car.

it means that the car. with the modifications of slicks (racing tires), cold air intake (shouldnt need to be explained at all), and aftermarket exhaust (free flowing) the car has enough traction to pull a wheelie. that would be the front wheels coming off of the ground when accelerating from a stopped position at the dragstrip.
thanks for the explanation! |

Hey Paint, Have a 2012 convertible Shelby GT500 and a 2013 Shelby gt 500 coupe. I know they are different than the 5.0 but for what its worth Love them. Upgraded both of them to 750 horses each. Both are rock solid and have no problems at all. Can get 10.9s out of them in the quarter. The 5.0 motor has been around for a while in different forms but you can load horses on it afterward. My friend who upgraded both mine professionally said you can add supercharger and retune and get 650 at the wheels pretty easy and safely. His father was a professional racer and does this for a living. He is very good. Have driven both my cars to Fla and back several times without a problem after upgrades. That 5.0 mustang before the body change is a good set up. You can beat the hell out of them and have little problems although nothing is perfect. Steve.

Have been involved with them for a while and still race them too. No major issues with them as stock drivers.
+1 on buying a 15 model though. That 14 model may be half price, but so will the resale value be on it. And believe it or not those EcoBoost turbo 4 cylinder engines go like stink in the 15 model. Check out MustangRTR.com to separate yourself from the flat bill wearing hillbillies. Shameless plug :-) |
